Lot's of time out in the sunshine.

bike 1:00 [3]

It's such a shame being injured in weather like this.

One hour of indoor torture with maps of Hvåla (NOR), Bere Island (Bere Island) and Bromma-Vallingby lond distance from August last.

Did lots of maths yesterday and today :)

Friday Apr 24, 2009 #

Note

rest day

rt calf very tight, so tried rolling on a wine bottle and then tieing the ball of my foot to above my knee with an elastic band so it doesn't heal tight... home experiments :)

left knee still sore, rt ft still sore... selected for Finland... I'll hobble around.

Note

I was about to switch off the lights last night when I noticed a bird-woman flying over my bed with her breasts uncovered. I hesitated, then turned off the lights.

running 45:00 [3]

From Andrew's to Trolldalen (31) and from Trolldalen around a loop and then to Sacka for food and bag-stuffing.

running intervals 23:00 [4]

Forest intervals with IFKL. Mostly good runnability, A couple of small hills, a marsh and a few twists to make it interesting.

Nice training. I only ran five of them (1km each, 1 min recovery) as my knee was giving out, right foot a bit sore too. No point overdoing it a week before IOC...

orienteering race 1:48:30 [4] ***** 16.1 km (6:44 / km)
ahr:177 max:192 37c

TIOMILA

Äkataboden

IFK Lidingö 3
125th

Five years after my last outing in 2004 (IFKL 4), I was running last leg again. The race went quite well, probably only lost five minutes and was able to keep running. When I analyse the race I'll find another couple of minutes I'll have lost somewhere. As belied by my AHR, I wasn't racing particularly hard. Running ten minutes faster shouldn't be difficult. Second team last leg runner ran 96. Wingsted ran 77, sub 5 min/km!!

Garmin distance ran: 17.56km

Quite pleased with my race. Ran less than ten controls in company. Before Christmas I couldn't concentrate for more than 40 minutes. In Pataias I did 16km in just under 2hrs, but in runnable (if a little more hilly) terrain, and suffered immensely from the end of the first hour. So training without sickness/injury for 8 weeks in a row appears to pay dividends! Knee is sore after, unsurprisingly. Must make sure it doesn't stay upset.

Place 125 (started in 134th), about 133rd fastest on the full last leg. Ruairi S had an excellent run, ten minutes faster and 60odd on the leg!

running 31:30 [2]

Pre-breakfast jog.
Loaded up on food all day. Watched some of the women's race. Met lots of nice people!

Played Carcassonne.

Followed the first hour and a half of Tiomila from the accommodation. In bed at 11pm.

Friday Apr 17, 2009 #

Note

On the bus to tiomila!

running 45:00 [1]

jog around Activus with Antonio. Then stopped to chat with Ruairi and Kat and then did another ten or fifteen mins. Nice evening.

Thursday Apr 16, 2009 #

running 24:49 [1]

up to fåfänga where I did a dose of stretching, then back.

need to do a lot more stretching, conditioning, get some massages... way too tight. foot and chest ache, didn't notice the knee.

bike 45 [3]

30mins bike, ten mins streching and wobbling, 5 rowing machine, 10 bike.

why oh why

Wednesday Apr 15, 2009 #

Note

16.3km last leg Tiomila for Lidingö's third team. Will be epic. We seem to have a vacancy in leg 6... 10km night leg. Also, have to be within two hours of the leaders to avoid the mass start with a reduced-length course, a mere 10km. When did they bring that in?

Note

rester day than intended. Was planning a light jog and some stretching, but I was writing a job appn until three this morning and I had to go to the office today to get it signed, and I think catching up on sleep is more important... zzzzzzzz
knee is still a bit iffy since the lakes, but it'll be fine.

Tuesday Apr 14, 2009 #

running 50:30 [3] 8.3 km (6:05 / km) +250m 5:17 / km
ahr:129 max:152

one and a bit yellow loops, one green loop. Partly with MickeB.

chest hurt, knee hurt, foot hurt but it's still immense enjoyable.

Note

Brother and gf have gone back to berlin, so free to write a research proposal today. So I went and found the spare Garmin strap to repair mine. All well and good except the spare strap is for people with thighs for wrists... so it's a bit loose.

Must go try it out :)

orienteering 1:47:00 [3] 11.92 km (8:59 / km)
ahr:135 max:172

Realised before leaving the flat that I could put the old broken strap back on and just replace the clasp with the clasp from the long strap. Stunningly smart I am.

Drove out to Nacka so as I could drop the car out to the suburbs afterwards. Ran a course Kat did (part of?) when we all went training together before christmas sometime. Ran a bit of it a second time.

Spent a few minutes by one control unsure that I was there... or not really knowing at all that I was there... funny the interpretation, it makes sense once you make it all make sense...

Pretty lazy orienteering, not very motivated to run fast or smoothly... but I avoided major mistakes.

Saturday Apr 11, 2009 #

trail run 40:30 [3]

wee jog around årsta doing part of the 2003 sprint DM. chest pain again. knees less sore. foot gradually getting less sore...

Friday Apr 10, 2009 #

orienteering race 52:52 [4] 7.36 km (7:11 / km)

Stigtomtakaveln spectator race.
Kyrkmossen, from Dambroangen, Ålberga.

Didn't seem like the most dfficult of courses. At the 15% threshold, Winsplits only picked up two mistakes, and one of those was to tie my laces. The other was my biggest mistake, of the order of 30-40 seconds.

Still, there was a bit too much weaving and I'm lacking a bit of agression and sharpness. The last 7 (easier) controls I did better.

Before the race I picked brother&gf up from Skavsta so they got to see a scandi O event. Met an Irish-Slovakian Kat too :)

Ivarsson won in 44 minutes. Ouch.

PS Most of the club were kicking ass down in Skåne. We had one men's team here, they were heading for tenth but the last runner DSQed...

running 50:30 [2]

To the tip of Nacka and back, slow.

Left knee is sore from the weekend's hills... hopefully it won't tsay that way too long.

Have a slight chest (heart?) ache each time I start running this past couple of weeks. I don't know if it could be related to indigestion. If I burp naturally it eases. Should get it checked out.

No space on teh Stigtomta team for me.

running 52:00 [3]

With Shane and Kieran.

Up from Grasmere to the north of Silver Howe, then south along the ridge to Loughrigg Fell. Lots of nice bumps to run up and down. Downhills were flaked today :)
The final climb was a killer.

orienteering 40:00 [3]

From just below the top we ran a ca 6km O course I planned that morning. I whought it would take a little longer, but we were flying :) Took it in turns to do controls.

Some controls looked easier than they were; others that looked tricky were v easy due to the good visibility. Something to keep in mind when planning... and racing...

A fitting place to lay a pair of twisters to rest.

other 1:00 [3]

Paintball

On the victorious yellow team. Got a nice collection of bruises :)

running hills 1:12:15 [3]

After eating at Wilf's(!), most of the group left for home. Kieran, S&F and I went back for a siesta in the hostel. A bit before 7, they went for a stroll while I went for a run:

From the hostel in Grasmere straight up to the top of Seat Sandal. It took 38 minutes to get to the top I think. The distance was short but there was over 600m of climb, and while I barely walked any of it I wasn't going fast.

From the summit I dropped almost 200m heading north and then flanked east overlooking Grisedale Tarn. Back over the col at Grisdale Hause and down the valley.

Pretty tired, so didn't flake the downhill.

A photo of Grisedale Tarn on the web:

orienteering 35:00 [3]

Aislinn&Johnny planned training... memory-O for the more experienced orienteers. Pretty straightforward, good fun. Rachel and I won, I think arcus and Fiona were 2nd... :)

bogtrotting 45 [4]

A leisurely afternoon game of marsh football halfway up a mountain descended into an intense game of bog-rugby... with Boyzone suitably attired of course :)

running 42:22 [3]

After losing at bog-rugby our team needed to prove our manliness by running up the hill and along the ridge up to the Lion and Lamb.

Beautiful!

Friday Apr 3, 2009 #

running 40:30 [3]

Bus to Sheffield (which i nearly missed), then got a lift with Fionne to the Lakes. Happily Marcus arrived soon after to drag me out for a wee jog. It was getting dark...
