running 33:00 [2]

around coviefi. Was going to go along the ocean but a canyon got in the way. Dusk doesn't last long here.

Saturday Nov 29, 2008 #

running 1:31:55 [3] 12.81 km (7:11 / km) +550m 5:54 / km
ahr:155 max:175

Running en el desierto/ cordillera de la costa

the near half was pretty sandy, far half a little more stable. The outward leg took 1h, almost all uphill.
Coming back 31 minutes, could feel my back muscles after about 10 :)

glorious up there, saw maybe fifteen plants, otherwise not a living thing.
Average HR the same going up and going down.

other 10 [3]

after showering went to the uni to meet up with the group heading to Meijillones for lunch. Had mussels as a starter and "acha" as a main course:
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php...
Perhaps not the best thing to be doing to achas, but are there any safe fish to eat these days?

Then went to play on the beach with half the maths dept for a few hours. Swam for several minutes to rescue a volleyball that was getting blown out towards the Galapagos.
Thank FSM for factor 50!

Had a look at some pretty cliffs and "La Portada" on the way back. Not a bad day :)

Thursday Nov 27, 2008 #

running 46:07 [3] 5.46 km (8:27 / km) +300m 6:38 / km
ahr:151 max:180

from Bartek's up onto the grit and sand Cordillera de la Costa.

Started around 11am and the sun was already too strong, otherwise I might have done another 30mins... hard work going uphill.

The wild dogs that used to hang around the water station weren't to be seen.
Went up to almost 400m above sea level.

Pre-breakfast run by el Pacifico.

Saw some dolphins!

Note

My car didn't accompany me to Chile!!

running 1:10:00 [1] 10.0 km (7:00 / km)

Out for over two hours starting at 1:15pm in sunny santiago. Smart chap I am.

Went up San Cristobal, got lost a few times, took off-road routes a few times, not all of them successful. Quite a bit of climb involved.

The sun is going anti-clockwise.

trail run 1:50:00 [1]

around the coast on the norra djurgarden map with the headlamp. Threw in a yellow loop on the way back to get over 1h40 and have a bit of extra climb for good measure.

very slow

was back up to around 75kg this morning after waking up on monday at 72kg
worked hard on eating yesterday :)

time for a break, methinks

Monday Nov 17, 2008 #

trail run 40:01 [1] 6.4 km (6:15 / km) +230m 5:18 / km

Over 8hrs in 7 days... I was 2kg lighter than a week ago when I checked this morning... one more day and then a wee trip to Chile should put the brakes on.

Good to do a bit of volume, and while I'm tired and hungry, I don't feel close to broken like I did a month ago.

orienteering race 2:21:10 [3] ***** 13.37 km (10:34 / km)
ahr:154 max:173

Garmin distance 16.6km

Vinterrejset!!!!!!!!

It was wicked. Drove myself and Andrew up to Uppsala where rejset was on. A little sleet got us well in the mood, out came the thermals gloves headband waterproof socks etc

More later, must get under my quilt for a while. Took a while to defrost after the race!

Saturday Nov 15, 2008 #

orienteering 1:32:24 [2] 11.0 km (8:24 / km)
ahr:158 max:198

Paradiset
embarassed myself doing lineO with AQ, good training, bad neil.

then 40 minutes in we switched to intervals swisscheese-style, andrew won 4-2, then jogged back to the hellas clubhouse.

HR broke 190 each interval, felt more like I was tired than running fast. When was the last time I did a 6h week?

Note

Two 5h weeks in a row... compared with a grand total of 7 in the preceding 12 months.

No wonder I can't run.

Friday Nov 14, 2008 #

running 35:29 [1]

discovered an amphitheatre
boats now have tents

Thursday Nov 13, 2008 #

Wednesday Nov 12, 2008 #

running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

half/half before/after

orienteering race 58:10 [4] 8.47 km (6:52 / km)
ahr:183 max:193

Mila Stockholm by Night!

Something like my 5th time night-orienteering ever, and maybe second time with a real headlamp.
It was well fun. Small mistake at the 6th but lost over a minute to andrew and he overtook me; slightly offline to 7 slowed me down, good to 8, not the smartest route to 9, but it was fun :)
then missed a track junction on the way to 10 so lost another minute and a half.

wiwnner 46, andrew 56, nick 57? neil 58
not bad, gonna get better :)

completely wasted afterwards.

Tuesday Nov 11, 2008 #

trail run 1:41:43 [2] 13.0 km (7:49 / km) +480m 6:36 / km

long run with andrew
green, two yellows and a red

Sunday Nov 9, 2008 #

trail run warm up/down 15:00 [1]

yawned many times on the jog to the start. a couple of minutes warm-down after too

orienteering race 1:18:12 [4] 9.5 km (8:14 / km)
ahr:165 max:187

Tullinge-organised competition, comp'n centre Brantbrinks IP/tullinge clubhouse

Continued my stunning form in "long" distance orienteering in Sweden with of the order of ten minutes of mistakes? Garmin says I ran 11.3km

Clearly not running fast enough either, looking at winner's time of 52 and my AHR of 165. 20 beats too low...

Didn't sleep enough so maybe that could be an excuse. At least I enjoyed it :)

Saturday Nov 8, 2008 #

orienteering race 33:56 [4] 5.0 km (6:47 / km)
ahr:183 max:196

Tullinge's comp'n, from clubhouse at Brantbrinks IP

Fun race, ran a good bit of it well, no major mistakes for the first 60%, then mistakes at 11, 14, 16. Kept pushing.
lost about 2 minutes total.

Boris was beating me by 25 seconds a couple of easy controls to go, so I put the burners on. Got him by ten seconds. A minute and a half down on Andrew, 6 or7? on the winner.

trail run warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Friday Nov 7, 2008 #

trail run 1:06:30 [3] 10.0 km (6:39 / km) +350m 5:40 / km

From KTH in the evening.

Andrew joined me after doing most of a green loop and we went off and ran yellow and red too. Fun training. Much warmer than a couple of nights ago and I had to unzip my jacket which I wasn't happy about :)

Note

Nicu was supposed to drive my car to my place last night to put winter tyres on, but she didn't want to come.

So I went out to see her this morning, cooling system was all out of water/antifreeze, so we added some and drove her back to my place. We failed miserably at changing the tyres as the nuts were rusty, so we went to the professionals... who also failed miserably with the power un-screwer... but succeeded with the aid of a rather long lever. He didn't speak English, so I apparently spoke some Swedish.
Efter han har bytade däckarna, jag bed honom ser the engine and the avgassystem som var broken. Han fixtad avgassystemet och allt var bra, men nu har jag mindre pengar.

On the T-bana home from Mälarhöjden a good-looking girl gave me her DN. I haven't found her number written on it anywhere. Oh well, guess I have some pictures to look at.

I didn't get much maths done today :)
Nor much training :(

orienteering 1:51:00 [2] 13.95 km (7:57 / km)
ahr:158 max:188

Nacka
Training with Boris on a beautiful crisp winter's day. The frost was down and a thin layer of ice coated many of the puddles.

Between Boris' butt and my calf, we didn't push too hard (or at all!). Lovely forest to run through, very runnable it was and with wonderful views out over the lakes. One of those days when I'm happy to be an orienteer :)

Thanks to Csaba and Elisa and Kat and Boris for dropping me home where I had a tasty meal and a warm quilt waiting for me!
