I had been wondering recently how people do this.
I had just finished the loop above Arolla, there was thirty metres of steep down to the car park. My snowploughing skills being what they are, I ended up falling, tip of the ski went into a snowbank which was actually a stone wall. Slow, but enough to snap.
It was at least all very pretty.
Afterwards I got free skis from a shop in Hauderes, just had to pay 25chf to transfer the bindings over. Yay. And free coffee from the bar across the street while I was waiting.
