trail run hills 46:24 [2]

côtes d'orsay
15 mins to and from bât 430, 30 minutes of up and down, slow and cold.
stopped to stretch after 20. needed it after the hard weekend. left foot sore and some muscles a bit tighter than usual and some a bit stiff too.

orienteering race 1:59:00 [4] **** 14.8 km (8:02 / km) +470m 6:56 / km
spiked:20/30c

Salamandre, WEHN Classic

Nice couple of inches of snow-dust on the ground. Which blew up in my face when subjected to amenable gusts of wind. another friggin' cold day.

medium mistake at teh second, apart from that running nicely (incl a few controls with thib) up until the thirteenth where i decided the control was right along the ridge rather than left - i wasn't sure of my position heading to the top and didn't think enough. doh
another mistake at the 15th, and small at the 16th, most of the rest was clean enough. racing against fabrice for some of the last few controls which was fun.

took fifteen minutes (actually longer) to get my shoes and socks off in the cold afterwards, so didn't stretch :( will pay for this this week and maybe next!

apparently Samuli ran 1h35, TG 1h41, so not an atrocious time, but still have work to do...

trail run 15:00 [2]

warm ups for sprint, middle and classic (sunday). and wee jog after the sprint.

pre-sprint went up and down the hill to parking to try to warm up a bit. very cold out.

orienteering race 27:00 [4] **** 2.4 km (11:15 / km) +70m 9:49 / km
spiked:4/11c

Tour Denecourt. WEHN sprint.
pathetic really. lost 3 minutes to the first, 4 minutes to the 10th, one and a half to the 9th, another one to the 3rd.
was i trying too hard?? physically nearly managed - well, obviously didn't if i couldn't think as well... f**k

technical sprint, 1:10 map at 5k scale

orienteering race 50:32 [4] ***** 5.5 km (9:11 / km) +175m 7:56 / km
17c

Petit Mt Chauvet - WEHN Middle distance

Much better, really running quite well up until the 11th which wasn't there. spent a long (5+minutes) verifying.... didn't do the rest of the course well...

at the 10th I was qt 26 minutes compared with 23 as a very good time.

still cold out!! saw tg at the 8th? samuli launiainen was also as part of a star-studded line-up!!
hill runs are starting to pay off a bit. can now run (slowly) up a hill and keep thinking...

trail run hills 1:04:30 [2]

orsay, frombat 430 since gyms are closed. straight (6mins) to start of hill loops, 52 mins slow hills, 6 back. 8 loops - should get this up to ten or fifteen for a long session, not tired at all after this one

2 consecutive days off now to prepare for the weekend - sprint middle night classic in bleau!

left foot occasioanally sore while running today is the main reason for the rest days...

running 1:06:56 [2]

cité, didn't go to the fac cos had no clean running gear left :)

cold, dusk, nice enough considering

Monday Feb 21, 2005 #

running 38:25 [3]

cité

was all up for slow hills in orsay but didn't figure on holidays closing the gym for a couple of weeks. grr. will have to run evenings there from now on and shower at home. not great, but if i'm to get fit i reckon i need to average at least one and a half hill sessions a week (one fast, one long and slow?) for the next couple of months.

cold out. appear to have run faster than usual. unintentional, and shows how solw i normally run at the cité.

followed by stretching&core strength

running 1:37:13 [2]

Parc de Sceaux
had planned on doing the long run in bleau, but couldn't get myself out of bed in time to catch the early train, so halfway to gd lyon turned back and went to bed for another couple of hours... run in sceaux was nice. not particularly motivated but it felt good. a bit of snow falling...
very steady pace, let gravity push me faster on the downhills... rt knee still hanging in. left foot is still stiff whenever i get out of bed or after rest, the outer end of the ball is i think where whatever possible problem is.
nothing serious enough to stop me running for the moment...

Saturday Feb 19, 2005 #

trail run 52:18 [2]

two longer hill loops in orsay. took it easy. night was falling. ground has started to dry up a little

Thursday Feb 17, 2005 #

trail run hills 52:02 [4]

cotes d'orsay
23 minute warm up, 22 up and down the intense loop and seven back to base.
Did an uphill in 1:30 flat today for the first time ever. For caomparison, 2:10 is still tiring, and i don't think i broke 1:38 before... the corresponding loop time was 4:05 i think.

again get faster and faster until about the fourth loop. strange how the body works.

Wednesday Feb 16, 2005 #

running 1:19:23 [3]

orsay loop, same as yesterday. a bit slower cos yesterday i kept up a good pace for a large part of the run, fighting the wind... today was easier, the swathes of mud were a bit drier and part frozen which was nice.

knee niggling more than usual.

hmm - these should have been entered as trail runs, and once posted the category of training appears unchangeable. kenny?? :)

Tuesday Feb 15, 2005 #

running 1:14:26 [3]

long loop orsay, good pace, before lunch.

feel it in rt knee this evening. still no pain :)

Monday Feb 14, 2005 #

running 42:00 [2]

cité, map of
Mala in Velika Planina
in hand. only did 7 or so legs

Saturday Feb 12, 2005 #

forest run 1:20:11 [3]

Scotland - Inveraray
i think at least 300m climb in the run.

Up past the castle by trails to the wee tower on the hill top, then off trail to the top of the next hill, cut down through forest and trails back to the valley and then mostly on trails back to the town.

cousin's wedding yesterday, surprising how little damage good whiskey does :)

weather was cold wet sunny dry windy... the usual :) gournd was absolutely sodden and the trees seemed drenched and rotting. had to wash feet in loch fyne before returning to the hotel!!

beautiful place and beautiful run.

Thursday Feb 10, 2005 #

Note

intended to go for a run today, forgot to take my gear into work, and tired afterwards, and walked into a bollard today, so "instead" will run in scotland tomorrow and/or saturday

Tuesday Feb 8, 2005 #

trail run 45:27 [4]

côtes d'orsay. long way up the hill the first time, then four times more. The last two were fast, down to 1:42 and 1:38 for the uphills, which I think is as good as i was doing before the summer. Gym was open too. Things are looking up :)

although leg is still iffy, and my left (esp) foot is still [stiff? sore? semthing?] since going skiing a month ago.

Monday Feb 7, 2005 #

running 31:07 [2]

citéU. nothiing spectacular. didn't feel yesterday's run in the legs. didn't get much sleep last night. right thigh still a bit bruised after the races last weekend. stretching&(planned at least) core strength exos afterwards

Sunday Feb 6, 2005 #

trail run 2:24:36 [2]

Fontainebleau to Bois le Roi run. It's been a while, nearly forgotten how onderful it is. Rocher de la Reine was just a little too inconvenient to get to for today's race, and weather was perfect for a long run.

Knee still proclaims its existence, but didn't stop me running. took it easy all the same.

Saturday Feb 5, 2005 #

running 31:33 [2]

citéU
maintenance run, map la carosse in hand, got too dark to read halfway around.

rt knee getting worse again. not much sleep this morning - started sleeping after 6am guhhh... still managed to do a couple of hours of maths this afternoon/morning

did some core strength exos too

Thursday Feb 3, 2005 #
