Billygoat at Townsend SF. A very nice course set by Alex Jospe and Ed Despard. Straightline distance 11.5 km. Weather turned out to be much better than predicted with light showers on the walk to the start and first hour or so of the race, then some sun for the post-race eating and awards. Temperature in the low 50s. Visibility pretty good with the first leaves of the season just starting to emerge.

Had a prety good race with no big errors and I think a reasonable skip choice (number 19). Following the parade for 1 - 4, then navigating for myself for most of the rest of the race. Jeff Shapiro kept appearing at or near controls up until about #16 (which he skipped but not gaining any significant advantage). Pavel Korneliev and Dave Pruden appeared off and on up until I skipped 19 and occasionally provided useful guidance into controls. Alone on the route from 18 - 20, which I took a pretty much straight line, skirting south of 17 to avoid the nastiness in that area. Alar and J-J passed me on the leg from 21 to 22 and since I had no interest in a foot race to the finish made no effort to try to stay with them (although I was close enough to Alar that he couldn't slack off).

Lost a little time on each of 5 (hesitated reading the terrain near the control), 9 (bashed through laurel to get to the control when I'm sure there was a better line) and 20 (wasn't completely sure where I crossed the last trail before the control and hesitated to figure things out).

Finished 28th overall. Need to check, but probably my 2nd fastest BG (winning time was 77 min, so on the shortish side but no complaints).

Green course at Thacher SP (EMPO local event). 4.9km SL. Nice course by Bruce Beesley. Very open woods and a fine day to be in the woods (I.e. not raining for a change). Ran Green since the Billygoat is tomorrow and Red was about 2km longer. One big parallel error which cost about 7-8 minutes. Three 1-2 minute bobbles in the circle - notn being focused enough. Wasn't trying to push the pace so you'd think I'd be able to get the navigation right.

Still a little wheezy but took the opportunity while it wasn't raining to run. Overcast and upper 50s.
