Flying Pig Day 1. Green course on Middle Creek map. Supposed to be a middle distance course but was a bit long. Climb was stated as 210m over a 4.2 km course. Of that, 50m was concentrated in a 350m leg with minimal route choice. Woods were trashy with lots of deadfall. The earlier than normal leaf out reduced visibility, particularly of the junk underfoot. And to add to the brutalness of the course, it was hot (70's and sunny).
Two medium sized errors on controls where I was sloppy with my attack point and a few smaller bobbles which I'll attribute to not dealing well with limited visibility. Still ended up first in M55, about 1.5 minutes ahead of Soupbone (which, of course is what really matters at the Pig :-) ). Was about 5th overall on Green. Tom Svobodny smoked the course in 42 minutes!
FR download later (the meet organizers felt no need to try to control their use - no instances of cheating were reported).

Red course at WCOC local event at Ansonia, set by Marie and Mike. Five butterfly loops (from 3 different common points). Lots of fairly short, technical legs. Common points were on hilltops, so there was plenty of climb. Straightline distance given as 7.9km.
Smallish errors on four controls, none more than 2 minutes, plus some hesitations. Probably lost 7-8 minutes overall. Saw PG behind me as I left 15, so got to practice running hard and navigating under pressure. He caught me at 23 when I drifted to the right and then passed me at 24 when I misread the huge boulder next to the control as one nearer the edge of the circle. Cooler than it's been (50F) and drizzly. Nice for running but a bit cool afterwards.
