Orienteering race 1:18:54 [4] *** 6.9 km (11:26 / km) +200m 9:59 / km
spiked:13/18c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Red course at DVOA local event at Hickory Run. Very nice course set by Sandy Fillebrown using the 1:10000 Sand Spring Lake map. Course mostly avoided thicker areas but being summer, visibility was reduced. Had an OK run but was sloppy on several controls, being pushed off line by thicker vegetation. Relocated fairly quickly in all cases but still could've been 8 or 9 minutes faster. Woods were wet from overnight rain and some light rain while I was running. Temps in the low 70's. Forerunner measured 7.23km. A nice bonus is that the park has upgraded the buildings near the beach at Sand Spring Lake so there were hot showers(!) available (for free - thank you PA taxpayers!).

Trail Run 22:02 [3] * 1.87 mi (11:47 / mi)
shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Running on trails at PEEC. ~9 min warmup out to where I started line-O and ~12 min coming back to the car to get back when I said I'd be done (back with 4 seconds to spare).

Orienteering (Line-O) 23:05 [3] *** 1.33 km (17:21 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Drew a line on a 1:10000 version of the Stuckey Pond map at PEEC and tried to follow it. With full summer vegetation visibility was not good so I had to relocate a few times to get back on my line. Reading cliffs was particularly challenging. Used an area mapped as mostly white woods, but some areas are a bit thicker now (area is where Sandy F set Sprint 1 a few years ago). Temps in the 80's and muggy. Bugs were only bad if you stopped moving.

Orienteering (Practice) 44:49 [3] *** 2.9 km (15:27 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Circled six points on the 1:10000 Stuckey Pond map and tried to find them (all had been used as control locations in previous events). Legs were relatively short but there were no bags or streamers (hoped there might be some remnants, but apparently clean-up has been thorough). I'm pretty sure I found parallel features for two of the points rather than my intended feature. May or may not have found another of the points (a form-line knoll used as an A-meet control - what I found was pretty vague.) Confident I found the other 3. Pretty tough without markers at the points but good practice. Had a couple of more points circled but ran out of time.

Trail Run 46:12 [3] 4.49 mi (10:17 / mi)
shoes: NB 874

At Kennedy Park in Lenox, MA. From the lower parking lot (i.e. even more climb), out and back on the single track on the northern/western edge of the park, plus a loop before finishing on the single track back to the parking lot. Overcast and muggy. Mosquitos invaded my car while I changed and feasted on me on the drive home.

Road Run 36:38 intensity: (31:38 @3) + (5:00 @4) 4.41 mi (8:18 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

Hilly run - Syring, Albany Tpke N to the milepost, back via Alb Tpke, 66S. Pushed some of the hills so logged 5 minutes of 4 intensity. Light rain and mid 60's - I'll take this over 85 and humid, at least for running.
