Road Run 30:10 [3] 3.44 mi (8:47 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

Figured I'd better get out today while it was 50 degrees rather than tomorrow when it's supposed to be in the 30's and breezy. Shaker Museum Rd to the bridge and back.

Road Run 50:51 [3] 5.67 mi (8:58 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

Another Spring day with temps near 60 (with less sun than yesterday). Sandwiched a run in between finishing the taxes and going to an A-meet planning meeting (with pizza and beer of course). A hilly run. 66N, Pratt, Bachus, Fredenberg, Jefferson Hill, Albany Turnpike, Syring. First time I noticed the sign for Fredenberg Rd. - always thought it was a continuation of Bachus, the map has it labeled as Mashodack Rd.

Field Checking 4:15:14 [1] *** 6.87 mi (37:08 / mi)

Wandering around in the woods at Moreau checking out potential start (and finish?) locations and visiting some potential control sites. Using the contours only map (enhanced with a few water and rock features visible from aerial photos). Some really sweet areas - open woods with lots of features. A spectacular day with temps in the 60's and sunny. Very little snow remaining in the woods and not too wet underfoot.

Orienteering 1:45 [0] 0.09 mi (20:33 / mi)

For those looking for a map. :-)

Orienteering race 1:29:01 [4] *** 6.03 mi (14:46 / mi)
spiked:15/18c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Red Course at WCOC event at Sessions Woods. Very wet woods, especially underfoot, with very cold water. Air temperature in the 40's, a bit of light rain and some breeze (great running weather). One gnarly stream crossing between 14 and 15 - knee to thigh deep in very cold, fast moving water. An OK run on a very nice course set by Peter Grollmann. Lost 5 minutes on #7 by misreading the bumps on top of the spur and going to the trail beyond to relocate. Misread things on the way to 14 and lost a couple of minutes. Sloppy on execution on a few other legs but got things back together before getting close to the control. Course stats: 7.6km, 210m climb.

Road Run 35:23 [3] 4.07 mi (8:41 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

Probably the last road run in the dark for a while since DST starts this weekend. Yeah! 66N, Albany Tpke. Mid 40's. Legs felt tight.

Road Run intervals 31:53 intensity: (6:00 @2) + (19:14 @3) + (6:39 @5) 3.69 mi (8:38 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

Road intervals. 4 x 400m with 90 sec recovery. Planned to do 4. Did 4. Target 1:40. Was "done" at about 3.5 - maybe not yet recovered from racing on Sunday. 1:39, 1:39, 1:39, 1:42. Temps in the upper 40's, getting dark.

Snowshoe race 52:18 intensity: (30:00 @4) + (22:18 @5) 4.77 mi (10:58 / mi)
shoes: Dion Snowshoes

Hawley Kiln Snowshoe Race. A gorgeous day - in the 40's with bright sunshine at race time, into the 50's later. Still plenty of snow (at ~1700 ft elevation). First and last 0.75 mi on snowmobile trail, a 0.4 mi stretch of snowmobile trail at about the 3.5mi point (all uphill) and most of the rest on single track. Snow had significantly settled since last week (with little new snow and daytime temperatures above freezing) so the running trench wasn't nearly as deep but was still soft in places.

Was in a race with two other M50+ guys who were close behind on the single track. Managed to drop them on the last significant climb so avoided a potential painful sprint to the finish. Both of them had raced the day before so I had a bit of an advantage.

Brunch at a local sugar house afterwards - abundant and excellent food which made it worth the rather lengthy wait.

Road Run warm up/down 5:11 [2] 0.55 mi (9:29 / mi)

Warm-up before race.

Trail Run 3:56 [2] 0.36 mi (10:51 / mi)

Cool down. Run out the trail to meet Janet. Wore Yaktrax.

Road Run 31:26 [3] 3.66 mi (8:35 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

Back still sore but decided I needed to run - a few twinges but OK once I got warmed up. A bit of a breeze out of the north so it was chilly to start. Low 30's. 66N and back. Only 10 days until Daylight Savings Time starts!
