Trail Run 1:00:29 [3] 5.6 mi (10:48 / mi)
(injured) shoes: NB 804 - Size 9.5

At Hand Hollow Preserve. Mostly on trails, a little bit on overgrown logging roads. "Lower" humidity - dew point in the mid 60's. Still taking it easy since the ribs are still a bit sore, so I'll check the "injured" box.

Road Run 32:45 [3] 3.6 mi (9:06 / mi)
(injured) shoes: NB 878 - #6

Syring Rd., Albany Tpke to end of woods and back. Very humid (still), low 80's. Ribs slowly improving. Felt like a mild side stitch (that wasn't going to go away). No ibuprofen (before the run) so I could feel the "real" pain level - tolerable. Only 11 days until WY.

Wednesday Jul 26, 2006 #

Road Run 24:27 [3] 2.7 mi (9:03 / mi)
(injured) shoes: NB 878 - #6

Ran the whole distance. Still some soreness so didn't push. Quite hot - still 83F at 6pm. Rt. 66S, Richmond Rd to Reed Rd and back.

Monday Jul 24, 2006 #

Road Run 19:00 [3] 2.0 mi (9:30 / mi)
(injured) shoes: NB 878 - #6

Yay, I can run again! Not pain free, however. Took it pretty easy and walked some (time spent running is an estimate). Ran 1 mile, walked 0.4, mixed run and walk for the next 0.9, then ran the last 0.5. Rt 66N, then Albany Tpke to Howes Rd. Ribs felt pretty good early in the day, then I sneezed - ouch!

Walking 11:24 [2] 0.8 mi (14:15 / mi)
(injured) shoes: NB 878 - #6

Walking in between the running.

Orienteering (Field Checking) 15:00 [1] *
(injured)

Walking around Colonie Town Park scoping out start/finish locations for our NOD event. (OK, I'm desparate for training time to log.) Ribs still sore but improving slowly (can now sleep in more than just two positions). Will probably try a bit more vigorous walk tomorrow.

Thursday Jul 20, 2006 #

Walking 29:14 [2] 2.0 mi (14:37 / mi)
(injured) shoes: NB 878 - #6

Needed to do some kind of exercise to keep sane. Ribs still too sore to run but walking is tolerable. Rt. 66N for a mile and back. Got the pulse all the way up to 80. :-)

Note

Indian Ladder Trail Run

Trail Run race 33:00 [5] 4.0 mi (8:15 / mi) +90m 7:43 / mi
(injured) shoes: NB 804 - Size 9.5

Raced the first four miles of the 15km Indian Ladder Trail Run in Thacher Park until I slipped and fell at a stream crossing (just east of the final control of the short courses this Spring). Landed pretty hard on my rib cage (in the stream, on rocks) along with my elbow and knee. Decided not to continue since I wasn't sure how much damage I'd done and walked back to the start/finish. Still pretty sore and will probably not be running for a few days (hopefully not more). :-( Weather was hot but I felt like I was pacing pretty well. Apparently I missed a quite muddy section later in the race.

Trail Run 32:31 [3] 3.2 mi (10:10 / mi)
shoes: NB 804 - Size 9.5

At Hand Hollow Preserve on the way home from work. Up along the pond to the intersection with the blue trail, back via red trail. Upper 80's and humid but probably about 10 degrees cooler in the woods. Stashed a bottle of water in the stream on the way out rather than have it sit in the car and get hotter than it already was.

Thursday Jul 13, 2006 #

Road Run intervals 10:30 [5] 1.5 mi (7:00 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6

Road intervals 7 x 90 sec with 90 sec recovery. Upper 70's and humid. Up and over the small hill on 66N (little up little down?).

Road Run 27:07 [3] 2.8 mi (9:41 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6

Warm up/down and recovery. Walked 30 - 45 seconds of most of the recoveries.

Tuesday Jul 11, 2006 #

Road Run 28:09 [3] 3.2 mi (8:48 / mi) +80m 8:10 / mi
shoes: NB 878 - #6

Jefferson Hill Road loop ccw. Hilly. 80F and quite humid. Had planned to push the uphills but decided against it once I started running.

Sunday Jul 9, 2006 #

Trail Run 1:10:31 [3] 6.5 mi (10:51 / mi)
shoes: NB 804 - Size 9.5

At Grafton Lakes State Park but in the part south of Route 2, which is not on the O-map. Mostly on snowmobile or hiking trails with a little bit off in the woods. Parked at the NE end of the resevoir. Ran Gartler trail out to Rt. 2 and back then ran CCW loop around the resevoir (had to bushwack across the outlet below the spillway). There were no snowmobiles out today.

Trail Run 41:12 [3] * 4.5 mi (9:09 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6

An unexpected and pleasant surprise from my hotel near the perimeter of the Zurich airport. I noticed a gravel path leading behind the hotel and continuing along a canal/drainage ditch so I decided to go for a run. About a mile down the path along the canal (after passing under the end of the active runway) there was a nature preserve with a small network of trails and a map posted. The trails were mostly gravel roads but it was nice to be able to run in the woods and I got to practice a little bit of map memory to keep track of where I was going. Based on this one experience, I conclude that Switzerland must be a very flat country. :-)

Tuesday Jul 4, 2006 #

Road Run 31:39 [3] 3.6 mi (8:47 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6

66N, Shaker Museum Rd and back. Overcast, mid 70's, muggy. Quick run in the morning before catching a plane to Zurich for a whirlwind business trip to SW Germany. Back on Saturday so no time for any orienteering. :-(

Orienteering race 2:25:52 [3] *** 8.95 km (16:18 / km) +305m 13:56 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons

Red course at DVOA local meet on French Creek North map. Lots of excuses for not being particularly fast: hot weather (near 90F), fairly thick vegetation (reduced visability), map at 1:15000, lots of subtle terrain (a la French Creek). Tried to navigate carefully but still managed to fumble around in or near the circles for several of the controls. Course was a bit long for a red course.

Saturday Jul 1, 2006 #

Road Run 29:36 [3] 3.3 mi (8:58 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6

Pratt Road to Bacchus and back. Finally a dry and sunny day!
