Orienteering race 1:16:20 intensity: (38:00 @3) + (38:20 @4) *** 6.8 km (11:14 / km) +350m 8:56 / km
spiked:18/18c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Western Mass Rules Score-O at Mt. Tom. Nice course set by Phil on a perfect day for orienteering (50 and sunny, continuing the streak for November). Went counterclockwise, doing the more technical controls across the road first (got #8 on the way). Hit all the controls pretty well (employed the technique of keeping in contact with the map). Only error was in choosing to do 11-7-6-10 rather than 7-6-11-10 and had to go about 400m further and climb about 50m extra. FR measured 7.55 km.

Orienteering race 1:28:21 intensity: (44:00 @3) + (44:21 @4) **** 6.7 km (13:11 / km) +200m 11:28 / km
spiked:13/16c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Red course at HVO local event on Blue Mountain Reservation map. Fun course by Dave Webber with lots of technical stuff. Lost contact on the way to 5 and took a while to relocate (saw the bag for #13 but didn't identify it as one of my later controls - D'oh!). Parallel errors on 9 and 16. Probably could've been about 15 min faster. Upper 40's but quite breezy (OK in the woods). FR measured 9.11 km, which indicates quite a bit of wandering on the controls I botched.

Road Run 22:43 [3] 2.55 mi (8:54 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

S on 66 and back. Still warm for November (50).

Orienteering race 1:07:16 [4] *** 5.7 km (11:48 / km) +220m 9:54 / km
spiked:13/15c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Red course at WCOC event on Hemlock Hills map (starting from Lake Windwing). A pretty good run on a very fine day for orienteering (50's and mostly sunny). Bobbled the first two controls in the circle, losing about 30 seconds on each. Small route choice errors on 8, 11 and 12 for another couple of minutes, most of it on 11 by going right around the cliffs and having to go through a bit of green and climb a bit more. Fine courses set by Susie D on a fine map-in-progress by Rick.

Road Run 29:20 [3] 3.46 mi (8:29 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

Surprised when I went out the door and felt light drizzle. Hesitated a second but then continued (good for me). Warm (55F) and very dark. 66N, Shaker Museum Rd. to beyond the Thruway bridge and back via Howes and Albany Tpke.

Orienteering race 1:39:26 [3] *** 7.0 km (14:12 / km) +385m 11:08 / km
spiked:13/17c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Red course at HVO local event at Clear Lake Scout Res. Bobbled the first few controls and then messed up on #4 even more, so decided to make it a training run rather than making any effort to push the pace. Navigated OK for most of the rest of the course. Lots of climb. Another 60+ day in November! Quite nice. FR measured 8.2 km.

Hiking 50:00 intensity: (30:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) 2.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

After the O-meet we drove to Poughkeepsie to check out the "Walkway over the Hudson", a new State Park facility which is a refurbishing of the Poughkeepsie-Highland railroad bridge into a rail trail which allows you to walk across the Hudson River (200+ feet above the surface). Pretty impressive and a nice use of what was just a rusting framework of steel. Since it was a 60 degree November Sunday afternoon there was quite a crowd. We parked at the east end, strolled across to the west and then came back at a pretty steady clip (1.25 mi in about 20 min).

Road Run 43:37 [3] 4.99 mi (8:44 / mi)
shoes: NB878 - #9

A run in daylight thanks to the Veterans Day Holiday (Thank you Veterans, for everything, not just the holiday). Syring, Albany Tpke to the gas pipeline, and back via Jefferson Hill Rd. Hilly, mostly paved except for about 1.5 mi on Syring and Jeff. Hill Rd. Overcast and in the upper 40's.

Orienteering race 2:08:04 intensity: (1:00:00 @3) + (1:08:04 @4) *** 10.8 km (11:51 / km) +435m 9:52 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Red course at WCOC local event on Pond Mountain. Weather was spectacular for orienteering, sunny and about 60F. Good course set by Peter Grollman. Visibility was excellent with all the leaves down. Distance was 50% longer than advertised (and climb somewhat more too). Ran out of water at about 90 min and there was none on the course, so the last half hour or so became a slog. Still enjoyed the day. Biggest error was about 8 minutes on #7 when I stopped about 80m short of the control and then spent way too long relocating. Missed low on #9 and looked even lower, losing ~4 minutes. Less than optimum route choice on #4 cost about a minute. Otherwise was reading the terrain well and moving well (at least for the first 80 - 90 minutes). FR measured 12.2 km.

Orienteering race 42:22 [5] *** 5.6 km (7:34 / km) +60m 7:11 / km
spiked:17/19c shoes: VJ Falcons 3 (yellow)

Red course at EMPO club champs on Peebles Island map. A 5.6 km sprint since there's a heavy trail network and visibility was very good even in the "green" areas. A couple of non-optimum route choices but otherwise a pretty clean run. Probably could've been 60 - 90 sec faster. Won M45+ class (and technically M35+ and M21). Quite a nice day for November, 40's and sunny. FR - 6.25km.
