Road Run 23:44 [3] 2.7 mi (8:47 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #6

66N, Albany Tpke. New shoes. Feet and lower legs were sore (before running) so decided it was time for new shoes. Both the road shoes and trail shoes I ran in this weekend are pretty old.

Sunday Jun 25, 2006 #

Trail Run 1:16:04 [3] * 7.0 mi (10:52 / mi)
shoes: NB 804 - Size 10

Wilton Wildlife Preserve (N of Saratoge Springs), Camp Saratoga and Opdahl Farm sections. Sandy trails with no rocks, minimal roots, few muddy spots, and only a few small hills. 80F and humid. Rain towards the end of the run but I didin't get any wetter than I already was. Distance estimated.

Road Run 26:33 [3] 3.0 mi (8:51 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #5

S on 66. 75F but still humid. Felt much nicer than Thursday.

Note

At Rob's high school graduation today, the speaker admonished the graduates to "be sure you have your road map before the train leaves the station". Good orienteering advice? Unfortunately, that was the best part of the speech. :-)

Road Run intervals 9:00 [5] 1.3 mi (6:55 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #5

6 x 90sec with 90sec recovery. 82F with dew point in the upper 60's - not the best weather for running hard. Pretty wiped out after 4 but pushed on to do 6. Walked some during the recoveries (rather than jog). Rt. 66N.

Road Run 24:45 [3] 2.5 mi (9:54 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #5

The other stuff.

Tuesday Jun 20, 2006 #

Trail Run 42:00 [3] 4.2 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: NB 804 - Size 9.5

Kennedy Park - over half of distance on single track trails used by mtn bikes - lots of twists and turns and lots of fun. Finished just as a big t-storm came through and avoided getting drenched by the downpour.

Orienteering race 19:45 [5] *** 2.5 km (7:54 / km)
shoes: NB 804 - Size 9.5

WCOC Bethel Schools Sprint 1. School complex with buildings, fences, athletic fields, vegetation blobs , and some woods with trails. Quite different from the HVO Sprints yesterday. Ran in shorts and trail shoes. Made about a 2 minute error on #5 with a bad route choice. Sunny and hot (upper 80's).

Orienteering race 26:54 [4] *** 3.0 km (8:58 / km)
shoes: NB 804 - Size 9.5

WCOC Bethel Schools Sprint 2. Made a parallel error on #2 that cost about 2 minutes, then made a bad route choice coming out of 2 which resulted in pain, a bit of bleeding and another minute lost. Lost 20 seconds on #7 by not following the obvious herd path. Even hotter than for the 1st sprint - easily in the 90's.

Orienteering race 18:24 [5] *** 1.93 km (9:32 / km) +55m 8:21 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons

HVO Sprint 35a. Small errors on the first two controls, then mostly clean. More than half of the controls in the woods, though this course was the least technical of the three. 14 controls.

Orienteering race 27:45 [4] *** 2.18 km (12:44 / km) +65m 11:05 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons

HVO Sprint 45. Several relatively small errors - probably about 3 min total. Two very technical areas where I slowed to way below "sprint" speed and kept the mistakes to a minimum. 18 controls.

Orienteering race 19:56 [5] **** 1.74 km (11:27 / km) +65m 9:39 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons

HVO Sprint 35b. A technical and physical course. All controls were on rock features except the two on dot knolls (and the GO control - which was a bare rock spur). About 2.5 minutes of errors spread among 5 different controls. 12 controls total. Weather for all three sprints was good - overcast, humid, 70-ish with the sun coming out later for the picnic.

Trail Run 43:00 [3] 4.3 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: NB 804 - Size 9.5

Kennedy Park, Lenox MA. Real nice day for a run in the woods - low 70's with some breeze. Ran some of the less gnarly trails (i.e. the wider, less steep trails) and managed to get to the highest point in the park without any wind-sucking climbs. I find I tend to push more when running trails ('cause it's lots more fun than roads) so it's hard to do an "easy" pace. This place would make a fun O-map - some very open woods and a quite complex trail network - courses would have to have lots of short legs (sprint or middle distances).

Monday Jun 12, 2006 #

Road Run intervals 9:00 [5] 1.3 mi (6:55 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #5

Time to get back to speed work. 6 x 90sec with 90sec recovery. On relatively flat roads (Rt. 66N).

Road Run 25:48 [3] 2.8 mi (9:13 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #5

Warm up, cool down, recovery between the hard stuff.

Saturday Jun 10, 2006 #

Trail Run 1:13:37 [3] 6.1 mi (12:04 / mi)
shoes: NB 804 - Size 10

Pittstown State Forest (Rensselaer Co. NY, about 2 miles N of Grafton Lakes SP, but not connected). Ran on a very nice trail designed for mountain biking so there were lots of twists and turns. Trail was wet and muddy due to lots of rain recently - should be fine when it dries out. Overcast and upper 50's so nice for running (though not what you'd expect for June). Woods are generally quite open and there are many rock features. Might make an interesting O-map except that the area has no facilities other than a parking area and is pretty far from the local O-population.

Friday Jun 9, 2006 #

Road Run 30:33 [3] 3.5 mi (8:44 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #5

Rt. 66 south and back. Partly cloudy (i.e. some sun!) even though the doom and gloom local TV meteoroligists had predicted rain (again).

Tuesday Jun 6, 2006 #

Road Run 28:45 [3] 3.3 mi (8:43 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #5

N on Rt. 66 to Pitts Road and back. Saw a fox.

Sunday Jun 4, 2006 #

Trail Run 57:31 [3] 4.6 mi (12:30 / mi) +200m 11:01 / mi
shoes: NB 804 - Size 10

At Tibbetts State Forest. Did the 4.3 mile loop plus side trips to check out the parking lot on Rt.7 and the remains of a lime kiln. Trails are mostly ATV width except for about 1 mile where they're not allowed. ATV use doesn't appear to be too heavy so the trails are in good shape. Cool (60) but humid. Some wet spots on the trails due to recent heavy rains.

Friday Jun 2, 2006 #

Road Run 26:32 [3] 2.9 mi (9:09 / mi)
shoes: NB 878 - #5

Albany Tpke, Howes, Shaker Museum Road loop. Trying to get through a cold (which has kept me from running since Monday). Cooler temperatures than it's been, but still quite humid.
