Kentucky Camp. More my sort of terrain (spurs and reentrants) as demonstrated by my much better run. I was pretty much error free (and attackpoint agrees with that assessment). A bit cold (there was snow on the ground earlier in the morning).

Back to Catalina for the Cholla Chaser. Fairly good run, except (like many) I started looking for number 2 too early. Then I decided that I'd gone past it, so backtracked.

Orienteering race 2:29:34 [4] 15.02 km (9:58 / km) +577ft 9:25 / km

Javalina Hustle (goat course) at Catalina State Park. For some unknown reason I decided to go to number 4 first. Then, after going to the real number 1, I followed Amy, Greg and Kathleen Lennon to their number 2, which was my number 5, before going to my real number 2. Met Sverre at number 2. After that thinks went a bit better, but I was having problems in the control circles. Number 7-8 I went down the side of the wrong re-entrant. I lost Sverre here. 11-14 was a split, I chose the left (southern) option which involved a long trail run, over the more northern shorter option but included lots of climb, not much of an attackpoint and much more rocks. I also got a preview of one control on the line-O at the end. I saw no-one on the western loop.
After the long trail run back, was a control on a boulder cluster (19), which seemed to be unnecessarily hidden. I met Sverre again here (he'd messed up number 10). Then a line-O - I already knew where one control was, and hadn't done my skip yet, so only had to find one other control (Sverre was in the same situation). Then to the finish (just in front of Sverre)!
I was far enough behind the person in front that my mess ups near the start wouldn't have made any difference, but even so, it wasn't very nice to have made them.

City Park with Hazel. Running trail was a sloppy mess, so after the first mile kept mostly to paved routes.
