Orienteering race 1:24:24 [4] **** 7.01 km (12:02 / km) +837ft 10:11 / km
shoes: Integrators pair 1

Western States O Championships - Red day 2. More of the same, but felt steeper (or perhaps it was just my knee complaining after yesterday!), and the weather was hotter. Made more mistakes, mostly 30 s parallel errors, but they cost me 2nd place in M40 overall (by 11 seconds). Fortunately the person who beat me wasn't Championship eligible, so I was still 2nd place on M40 in the Western States O Championships. Good thing I'm not M45, otherwise I'd have been way down the field!

Went to look at the cactus in Saguaro National Park, before a late flight back to Denver.

Orienteering race 1:29:49 [4] **** 7.8 km (11:31 / km) +853ft 9:52 / km
shoes: Integrators pair 1

Western States O Championships - Red Course. Greaterville, AZ (near Sonoita - SE of Tucson). A very open area with lots of spur/re-entrant features - something like the Wyoming areas around Laramie, or Surrey Heathland (eg Long Valley or Ash Ranges), but with steeper climbs. Fast area, but lots of loose rocks underfoot, so my lack of fitness and nervousness going down steep hills showed (plus the fact that I haven't orienteered since October.
Made a parallel error on no 2, but otherwise a generally clean run, leaving me in 2nd place on M40 (but with two people close on my heals).

Orienteering race 31:36 [4] **** 2.9 km (10:54 / km) +295ft 9:26 / km
shoes: Integrators pair 1

Sprint race in the afternoon. Similar to the classic race this morning. Biggest mistake was a parallel error on no 11, otherwise started OK, but slowed towards the end (tired!).

Was hoping to buy something in Sonoita to bring back to the meet site pot luck, but the two stores in the "town" didn't have anything suitable that's vegetarian. Instead I ended up in a coffee shop on 4th Avenue in Tucson (a bit like a mini version of Pearl Street in Boulder CO).

Running 48:19 [4] 5.2 mi (9:17 / mi)
shoes: Asics (pair 3)

Usual 2 clockwise loops of Washington Park (24:14 and 24:04). Almost no ice (except on the Northern edge of the park), and quite warm (in the 50's F = above 10 degrees C). The best I've felt running in a long time, and good to know I can still run reasonably well if the conditions are right and I'm feeling good.

My right knee has been starting to bother me a bit recently, so I iced it this evening for the first time in ages.
