Went out to Beautiful Hills this morning with Toby to do some long hills in terrain. We were both quite reluctant to get out of the car as it was pretty cold... but once we were running it wasn't so bad. First we ran down to the bottom of the Beautiful Hills map (via Selwyn Rd and then some tracks), to the edge of the rough open area. Then tried to create a 15 min hill climb by first running up a big hill through terrain, then around some tracks, including one which had some steep parts and some undulating parts (we ran on this to control 14 in the last event on this map). The first one I did was ok, but I was slowed down in the middle because the map is quite green and rough. There are also some downhill bits, so I need to work on maintaining the intensity there. The second one I got stuck in even more green, but still pushed hard at the end. Then the last one was only 10 min because we ran it all on sandy tracks, and it was all high intensity.
So overall, still getting the best route sorted (although I think I have a plan now), but I think it was a good session. Definitely felt recovered and really enjoyed the training! So fun to be running in terrain like this, and I can't wait to get stronger :)
Used my heart rate monitor, but it's up to the same old tricks... no way was my average HR 96, that's an insult.
