1 PM

Orienteering race 52:26 [5] *** 5.0 mi (10:29 / mi)

Red Course at Riverbend Nature Center
Set/Vet by Mike & Julia
Ran a decent course overall. Made a dumb 2 minute error at number 7 and had trouble finding 12. CP14 was another matter entirely - was bummed to lose so much time on this control (AP has it at 5:29 lost), especially after seeing what the area looked like on a satellite photo and the lack of contours and other features to provide context for the pit shown on the map.
Fun day to be out in the woods though. Seemed like the event had decent turnout.
I must have hit the off button on the GPS 13 minutes in - was bummed not to have my track to see where I went on the map in relation to the CP.
2 PM

Orienteering race 11:49 [3] * 1.5 mi (7:53 / mi)

White/yellow sprint. Fast, but reading the riddles kept it within check.

Suburbocross VII
Fun night for a ride. Thought the weather was going to be worse, but things cleared up nice by race time at 8pm. Pretty chilly at mid-30 degrees, but dressed well for the conditions.
Initially was off the lead group due to a missed turn near the start, but gradually worked my way back up. Tom got a flat on the railroad tracks, which I was super bummed about, but had to keep riding since I didn't have a repair kit of my own. I knew the course the best out of the lead pack, so I ended up pushing the pace most of the way, which was a mistake. Our group was slowly whittled down to 3 for the final stretch, but I didn't have the guns on the final hill to put much of a sprint down at the finish, so came in second overall. Pretty jazzed to be at the front for the ride, but wished my compadre Tom had been there to finish it off for us. Apparently I haven't been focusing much of my training on the sprint finish during the AR season.
