Strength and Conditioning 10:00 [3]

Random set of exercises but working on all the main areas that need it: ankles/feet, core, arms, glutes

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Running race (Ennerdale Show Fell Race) 15:28 [5] 2.38 km (6:30 / km) +175m 4:45 / km

Actually really enjoyed this for the first time ever! Felt really strong going up the first steep bit of hill onto the hill, jogged almost all of the way up it, over took Andy (Bradley). Then was dying but keeping the pace up along the hill, but dropping off a bit coming up to the turning point (the lady behind me overtook and sped off). Lost a couple of places coming down and lost focus a bit but over all a good race, although didn't manage to stay ahead of Andy who got away on the downhill.

Anyway good race, leg fine although tweeking a little now/after, came 2nd lady and got £15 which was a bonus :)
FUN.

Note
(rest day)

Another total rest day to try and give the legs a proper rest so I can do the fell race tomorrow. Top of right leg not really bothering me but not suprising as have only been walking around the house. Just going to rest completely to have the best chance of being able to race tomorrow.

Stretching 33:00 [0]
(rest day)

Top of my right leg really painful today, walking around I was limping some of the time - not good. Rest rest rest and sure it will be fine though.

Sunday Aug 23, 2015 #

Note

Once off the hill Dad ran ahead to get the car and I carried on walking, and he drove back and picked me up. Hard work even walking now, and started feeling kind of sick. Time for some rest days to get back on track.
11 AM

Running long (Bob Graham Leg 1) 1:21:00 [3] 8.12 km (9:59 / km) +800m 6:41 / km

First split up to the top of Skiddaw. Felt fine, slow pace. SO WINDY on top?! Could barely stand up, so slowed us down quite a bit as couldn't really run at all on the top part.

Running long (Bob Graham Leg 1) 41:17 [3] 4.23 km (9:46 / km) +200m 7:54 / km

Down Skiddaw and up to Great Calva. Extremely boggy so that was slow going as well.

Running long (Bob Graham Leg 1) 1:13:44 [3] 5.65 km (13:03 / km) +480m 9:10 / km

Down and up to the top of Blencathra. Legs just somehow seized up completely and just felt like so much effort to move at all... felt like I did on my run two days ago, just totally dead as if I was pulling a cart full of bricks, and really unbalanced... not good :(

Running long (Bob Graham Leg 1) 34:49 [3] 3.83 km (9:05 / km) +25m 8:48 / km

Ran down off towards Keswick, having to drop down to the right to get out of the wind (SO STRONG).
Legs absolutely gone now, miles behind Dad felt awful, so much effort just to jog :( Feel like I have overtrained in the last couple of weeks and now it's all catching up with me... two weeks of shorter faster runs and nothing too intense I think.

Cycling 2:23:52 [3] 30.23 mi (4:46 / mi) +500m 4:32 / mi

(48.65km)
Really nice bike ride through Brigham, Dean, Rowrah, Kirkland, Loweswater, Thackthwaite and back to Cockermouth. Pretty easy, no really hard hills and a nice route to blast round I imagine if you know the route (had to keep stopping to check the map)! Good ride, just a short one as long run tomorrow.

Running warm up/down 11:46 [3] 1.72 km (6:50 / km) +47m 6:01 / km

Felt AWFUL! Like I was really heavy and my legs just wouldn't move and kept wobbling around all over the place - no idea what was wrong just felt pathetic!?
Anyway so decided to do a hill rep to try and wake myself up.

Running hills 2:33 [4] 0.48 km (5:19 / km) +36m 3:52 / km

Quite tough but could have gone faster. But nice to do some speed, have just been doing normal runs for so so long now.

Running 31:32 [3] 5.08 km (6:12 / km) +80m 5:45 / km

Just the rest of the normal shorter run. Was going to make it longer but just felt SO pathetic and all seized up, so decided to go home and stretch loads and rest. Hopefully will be better for my bike ride tomorrow and long run Sunday.

Note
(rest day)

Was going to do something but ended up taking Dad to Carlisle to get his cast off. Did some shopping and for some reason my right achilles/foot/ankle got pregressively painful throughout the day for some reason? So decided to rest for today.

Running 56:01 [3] 8.74 km (6:25 / km) +200m 5:45 / km

Nice run up the Hay, did the extra part of running down the track on the left once through the gate and in the wood, and then all of the way back up and round the wiggly path route. Fun and steady :)

Running 2:40:30 [3] 17.62 km (9:07 / km) +950m 7:10 / km

Another great run in the mountains. Brisk start steadily climbing up the valley on a good path. Over the other side and up the road, then cut off up the mountain to the top. AMAZING views, and straight down the most incredible ridge on the other side.
So fun! Quite rough going down so took a while for that bit, but then back on another great path over the next on, zig zagging up, then down the other path on a steady path to the van, where Mum was waiting with a huge load of Pollock that she caught.
Also stopped off at an amazing gallery on the way home which gave amazing tea and cake for free (donation to charity) - such a nice guy in there.

Anyway, amazing day, best of the holiday! So much Pollock for dinner - bliss.

Cycling 1:26:35 [4] 29.81 km (2:54 / km) +450m 2:42 / km

AMAZING bike ride home from another part of the island, just on my own this time so pushed reasonably hard - SO MUCH FUN!!!!
Harris is an amazing place for cycling, I would definitely go back for a proper cycling holiday. Completely smooth roads for most of it and so empty. Very hilly but all manageable and nice because of how good the roads are. No wind today so it was BLISS. Should have done a super long route and spent the whole day on it, but nice to have a shorter route so could go faster I suppose. Flying.

Thursday Aug 13, 2015 #

Running 1:12:45 [3] 11.3 km (6:26 / km) +200m 5:55 / km

Coast to coast on Harris! Run home from the beach on the other side. So fun! Made the day a million times better and blew away my grumpiness :)
Went for a nice "sprint" at the end as thought we were almost there, ended up being a few mins as was actually still a way away.
Anyway felt so good despite the last few days and starting off feeling awful!

Wednesday Aug 12, 2015 #

Cycling 1:59:23 [3] 31.12 km (3:50 / km) +403m 3:36 / km

Cycling round a few gallery's and the Art Cafe (overpriced) on Harris. A bit slow as Hannah was on the mountain bike (beast) and VERY VERY windy so quite frustrating. Nice gallery's though.

P.S. Was meant to be a rest day, but was longer than expected and quite hard because of the wind so it was actually exhausting.

Tuesday Aug 11, 2015 #

Running 4:06:25 [3] 18.3 km (13:28 / km) +1400m 9:44 / km

Beasty run with Hannah - so much fun despite the very grey weather!
A lot of steep ground and no paths so was quite slow going at times (even the downhill was too rough for proper running) but very good strength training and a good day.

Monday Aug 10, 2015 #

9 AM

Running 31:12 [3] 5.5 km (5:40 / km) +50m 5:26 / km

Morning run with Hannah - just sticked to the roads today. Safe to say I feel much better running in the afternoons, but was SO nice to get out and enjoy the morning! :)

Travelling to Harris today with the fam and Hannah. Amazing cottage!

Orienteering (Scottish 6 Days) 1:32:58 [3] 6.22 km (14:57 / km) +280m 12:12 / km

Glen Affric again, but the 'better' part apparently. Some people seemed to like it but personally did not. Was fed up half way round so decided to just go for a run and find some nicer forest instead of the tussock-y open that I was in, as the description of the day said "mostly runnable"?!
Anyway couldn't find any going through the whole area so just went back. 6.22km in 1.5 hours... seems a bit stupid to be honest, could have just gone for a decent run on a nice path.

Orienteering (Scottish 6 Day) 1:40:50 [3] 7.7 km (13:06 / km) +300m 10:58 / km

Retired. Not really enjoying it/fully engaged and wanted to watch the World Champs. Seemed a bit of a flop to retire, but doesn't make much difference to me when I didn't care about my result anyway, so seemed to make logical sense and got to see the final guys come in on the Long.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.3 km (7:42 / km)

Orienteering race (Scottish 6 Day) 1:10:37 [4] **** 8.77 km (8:03 / km) +300m 6:53 / km
21c

Actual course: 7.925km, 250m
Fun! Nice forest, nice course, v quick. Can't orienteer fast enough to run any faster though so still a slow time but felt fit physically. Made some silly mistakes but nothing drastic.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Actually did a proper warm up with drills whattttttt?!

Orienteering race (Scottish 6 Days) 48:01 [4] **** 6.32 km (7:36 / km) +145m 6:49 / km
20c

Actual course: 5.3km, 115m
LOVED IT! Great forest, great course, finally been reminded why Orienteering is a great/worthwhile sport. Also do love a good middle race! Nice and runnable, although because my orienteering is so slow now was not able to run as fast as I could have but such is life. A few mistakes and still not exactly good result but don't care, was v enjoyable.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race 1:44:56 [4] *** 8.26 km (12:42 / km) +330m 10:35 / km
21c

Actual course: 6.8km, 280m
Absolutely hated it. Yesterday I just had a strop so was slow so my own fault, but today was just ridiculous, why on earth that area was used I have no idea, hands down the worst/most horrible I have ever been on unfortunately. Literally no part of it was nice, I battled through the first 9 thinking it would be better from there and it barely was, a total waste of the day.
Also huge disadvantage starting early apparently it was hugely tracked up and easier running later on.
Not feeling very positive but more disbelief today as to why on earth anyone thought the area could be enjoyable! Bad times, looking forward to the middle!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race (Scottish 6 Day) 1:33:58 [3] **** +200m
28c

Actual course: 8.125km, 165m
Hated it unfortunately, just wanted to run. Not feeling a fan of orienteering, and definitely NOT a fan of this area. Not runnable, masses of flies, horrible! Hope for better tomorrow.
