Run to start plus some extra jogging round - more than often but still didn't feel enough (it never is these days!).
orienteering race 59:00 [5]
SOL Dunachton, Short Brown. 7.9km 59.00. Started smoothly, aiming to read map plenty and stay on top of navigation at all times. Struggled a bit up the long hill to 3 then started trying to pick up pace, missed too far right (and high) at 5 (lack of compass checking), 6 fine (saw area , saw flag, code OK so punched and off!). Long leg to 7 ,deliberately stayed to left of line to avoid crossing gorge lower than necessary. Caught up a couple of Invoc guys at 8 and trying to push to drop them, couldn't... but keep pushing to end. Hesitant in a couple of the tricky woodland controls, but clean through circles, wobbled a bit on leg to 18 through woods - angles not quite what i expected, I think just pushing too hard. Slight miss at 2nd last - looped beyond control - juniper bushes seemed larger in reality compared to map, but only a few seconds lost.
Pleased with my performance and managing to push hard on 2nd half. Didn't read map as much as I had planned but course was a bit light greenish for much so constant map checking not needed.
