I was a bit worried about this race because when i registered to run m21 for long, i was running very strong, and it was before i got sick.
I just wanted to finish this race without making any major mistakes. I tried to pick the most solid routes, and understand the map. I stopped to check many times, and make sure i understand what i am doing.
I was very surprised by how much time i lost on my way to 10 through 15 and 14! I gave up a good half a leg just on that dumb choice to run around. About 4-5 minutes. I saw Smith when i took 10. The next time i saw him was when i was going through 15 to take 14 (another dumb idea to climb up so early), and he was at 15.
I ran alone pretty much the whole time. The course was definitely a Very fast one, it would usually benefit me, but i was not ready to catch people 2-10 minutes in front of me, nor book it down all those trails, so i ran my own race.

My first official M21 Long race at an A-Meet! =)
I would say i am pleased, except for my choices to avoid going straight through the terrain, which was definitely needed. I will work on it ;)

Definitely from the first control, which took me very long to take, i realized im very out of practical orienteering habits.
After i took the 1st cp (on the way to which i had crossed a stream on a path); I picked my route choice to the 2nd cp through a path crossing a stream again.. it was another stream, so i rushed to the one i passed making a 2 minute mistake :) very stupid. i thought it was very funny when i saw that river..

The rest of the race wasn't so great either. Pulse jumping up an down. Could not think clearly since i was not able to nearly run the speed im normally used to, leading to more and more dumb route choices and mistakes.

Nick had caught up to me after another mistake, and I took many of the next controls with him and Laszlo. Another mistake to last control.

Overall, i was not very pleased. Race was too fast for my current condition, and i could not think clearly. Just felt awkward.

First week running of a 3 week sickness, so i was surprised some of my splits were still competitive.

Ran easily at the beginning to break into the map and race. Took the first 2 cps fine. The 3rd is what cost me to have a clean result. Everything was fine. I saw all of the trails i crossed and the streams. Even saw the fence, where I got a rough bearing again to make sure I am headed straight towards the control. Once i reached closer to the stream/control, the root stock either did not catch my attention, or i did not look for it, but i do know i was looking for the swamp that is right before the control. Since it rained just before the start, i found a swamp.. but it was way lower and even kinda had the same shape.. I went down the stream, then i saw another rootstock, checked it.. obviously nothing. So it kinda sucked right there, went here and there, then went up the stream again, surprised to find the cp there. My dad tells me that he was about to take that same control, and he was 2 minutes back, and even though he never saw me again after, this mistake cost me at least a 2nd =(

I went to check that control after the race when i got my map back. The hill definitely pushed me a bit to the right, but that swamp still sticks out lol and the rootstock really doesn't.. for me.. I think its the way the tree is lying. For my perception, it kinda blends in with everything else.

Anyways, not a bad race, and i am not really that disappointed. I did not expect much from this event.
