Orienteering Race race 1:08:43 [4]

O-Cross race at GLOF. Man, I kept telling people how much I like head-to-head racing, but this was a nasty wake-up. I now will say that I really like mass start races, when fit enough to climb those hills.

Apologies to Jon Torrance who I nailed in the face with a sappling during the mass start. I also ran into a tree while map-reading with my head down early.

Ran with BG and some others for a while, then on the second loop I felt like I had lost contact with the map and was nervous about going down the wrong ravine. When I figured out I was actually in the right spot, BG and friends had left town.

I seem to remember thinking "I really should be enjoying these woods out here when climbing".

How was I second in one of the hardest split out there?

Super fun weekend.

Orienteering Training 45:00 [1]

Some running with Hammer to pick-up controls from the GLOF Long.

Was a fun day of announcing. Cool to have the battle between Patrick and Pi to call.

Orienteering Training 45:00 [1]

Running in the Valley with Hammer putting out flags. I was going to run the Middle, but did this instead. Hmmm, race would have been fun, but man, that would have hurt.

Note

So far I've held off commenting on how some sports journalists dare not refer to Orienteering as a sport.

I suppose none of the people commenting have been to alocal North American B meet before.
