Cross-country skiing (Classic) 1:45:00 [1]

Classic on a chilly night with Nicky and Caroline Connell. Great conditions and really fun ski. Used Blue Extra which for sure was too warm, but nice to easily have grip on the Fortune Parkway climb.

Climbing 1:00:00 [1]

Was going to take a rest day, but Freddy was heading climbing and my upper body can use all the work it can get. Went to Altitude which is still great. Climbed for 2 hours but will log one.

Listening to this a lot lately, somehow I missed it when it was first out, I guess these dudes are very big in Vancouver:

Cross-country skiing (Classic) 1:15:00 [3]

Didn't sleep well again, but decided was such a good night needed to get out for a ski. Classic from Asticou, great conditions, bit of fresh snow. Should have gone with Multigrade rather than Blue Extra, but close enough.

Cross-country skiing (Skate) 2:20:00 [3]

Long skate ski with Nicky on just a perfect day for a ski. Soft snow but Salomon skis felt quick enough (could use some more wax). Kept snowing out there, this is going to be a long ski season!

Body felt tired. Stayed up too late last night watching 90s videos on youtube. Please don't accuse me of making that up.

Running 45:00 [2]

The loop on a snowy night.

Work will be busy next week.

Cross-country skiing 1:20:00 [3]

Wicked ski with Lampi and Nicky.
Alison had wicked fast skis and Nicky and I so didn't. Soft slow snow. But really nice night for a ski.

Cross-country skiing 1:15:00 [2]

Really nice solo ski from P7. Either faster snow or I'm skiing faster.

Cross-country skiing (skating) 1:25:00 [3]

More skiing! Great conditions.

Signed up for the 27km Skate for the Gloppet. Figured the least I could do. If I get loads of skiing in before then might try to move up to the 50km.

Cross-country skiing (classic) 2:00:00 [0]

Skiing with Mel from La Philippe. Super nice warm day. Sadly I went Classic and decided to get by with hard wax. I chose poorly.

Thus, full on double pole day with skating up hills. Hard to think that these are the Gloppet start trails and guys like Ian Murray would be double polling all of this.

Would love to park here and ski to another parking lots if I can find people to shuffle cars.

Ottawa AGM:

Interesting meeting. Some good elements (average Sunday event attendance is over 100, great sign). New club awards named after BG, Pierre, PdStC and Colin. Excellent to see Robbie Graham receive the initial BG award and other strong candidates receiving other awards.

Not great stuff: even with paid staff Ottawa's kids program had 10 participants. 10. Ten.

2017 will be a big year for Ottawa. Hopefully the work is spread around a bit.

Cross-country skiing (Skate) 2:00:00 [1]

Lovely ski from P10 with M in town from Van. Did not go mega hard.
Ran into Juha! Maybe the only Orienteer who actually lives in Carp! Already working on getting him to run Nationals.....

Running 45:00 [1]

Well that was not pleasant! Evening winter run along the river and my right hip flexor was mega tight the entire way! Did not feel enjoyable at all.

Question:

Are there any concerns with O Clubs or O events having beer sponsors?

Cross-country skiing 1:30:00 [2]

Back to Ottawa and up to Old Chelsea for a ski from P7.

Super fast fun conditions!

In Montreal had a good chat with Thomas K that included reviewing some old Quebec maps from the 70s, 80s, and 90s!

For the first time in ages, I think things are looking up pour Quebec Orienteering.

Note

Le coureur nordique is probably now in the top 5 fave shops in Canada. Running and skiing, they have a track lane installed in the store, good ski collection.

And open to host Orienteering to start things off in Quebec City.
Which must be Canada's largest city without an O club or any events.

Cross-country skiing 1:15:00 [3]

Skate ski at the Plains of Abraham after class. Very good conditions although maybe rain is coming soon.
I've now used 3 of 5 pairs of skis I brought, probably as good as that ratio is going to get.

Cross-country skiing (Skating) 2:15:00 [3]

Skate skiing on a chilly Sunday at Mont Sainte Anne. Hard trails! Also all uphill! And again super soft grooming so wasn't getting a lot of push from right pole. Would love to get here when it's warmer.

Quebec City!
Has been busy with school and crazy storms, but was a pretty decent Sat so headed north of Quebec to a small very old school ski du fond centre near Stoneham. Just classic. So much snow. Was worried about my poles snapping a few times, but really fun ski.
