Did a gentle ride to Orleans with friends in the morning after watching some marathon runners at the Art Gallery. Picked up just a wicked farmers tan (sunscreen on my face, missed my arms). Then had lunch as this super cute Mexican place in New Edinburgh and hilariously had to eavesdrop on Elizabeth May sitting in the next table. She orders breakfast pretty much exactly how one would think.

Oh, but this training is for the evening ride up and down to the Gats.

Note

The US Team Trials process has been strange to watch. Very organic?

But at least it is in the US.

Running 55:00 [2]

Busy week at work so headed up to Old Chelsea for a hammerfest up and down the hills.

You know, the leaves are out and man, there are some open woods in the Gats.

Hard ride along the river to Orleans.

Cycling 1:05:00 [2]

Tried to ride hard on the Rockcliff Parkway after long day at work. Into the wind both ways!

Pretty sure there was just a crit or something as there were loads of fancy bikes out and aboot.

Running 1:35:00 [3]

A tough Tues Night Training Trail run. I think too much coffee late in the day meant a rough belly and then T-Rex totally mocked me before the start! ;)

Super chilly night. Workout was loops on a fun trail just off the Parkway near Pink. Felt okay at the start, but really hurting at the end, passed by both fast ladies with the cool striped tights. Hard run, would be perfect for elite Orienteers on the single track.

Well at least the weather was nice. But legs felt like garbage.

Both sad and great news at the same time. Sad that Yurkiw has to walk away from the sport, but amazing to think of what she accomplished as a self-funded athlete. Canada has a big gap in talent on the speed program going into the next Olympics.

Orienteering Race 1:05:21 [3]

It was mega blah in Ottawa this morning, cold and windy and I was thinking about skipping the B-Meet. But really glad I went. Map is small with the NRCan CANMET facilities in the middle of it (hopefully the club could get permission to use it if wanted to). But also had some really nice woods, super mega wide open, not too much rock underneath.

Had some bobbles around a few controls, nothing major, just wasn't hammering fast enough out there. Shins were really sore, although I haven't been running that much.

It was nice temp away from the wind, but really chilly at the finish.

First ride of the year, Airport Parkway.

How can it feel into the wind both ways??

Running 1:03:07 [4]

Wow, great hard run with Dave's Group. Went from P5 to the Notch Loop with 2 loops. Really fun trails, rolling, technical single track. Huge massive group, maybe close to 100?

Went slow off the start and then tried to hammer. Ran out of gas the second loop, but happy with the effort.

Running 45:00 [1]

Run on the Westdale trails. Some of the local athletes were too concerned with the slightly dodgy conditions to join me.
