Note

Coe versus Ovett on the big screen, staring Harry Potter as Sir. Seb:

This should be good.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

Not too chilly of a night.

Running 45:00 [3]

Ski striding continuous Zone3 up and down Esso Hill with the Edmonton Jr. Good turnout tonight. I was doing it with them and then peeled off to hang out with Ulf and talk technique for some.

Note

I almost want to join a US Orienteering club just so I can participate in some of the battles here on Attackpoint.

There are very few excuses in having an ancient website. However, not something that should be enforced top-down.

Running 45:00 [2]

It was very cold.

Cross-country skiing 1:30:00 [1]

Roller ski practice with a mixture of jrs and Masters. Did 30 minutes of Z3 with lots of warm-up and cool down. I jumped in to ski with them here and there and "coached".

Strength Training 30:00 [1]

Incredibly painful core strength training. Too many push-ups.

Note

Someone that US Orienteering should contact recently said this:

I love geography, always have. I almost have a compass in my head. No matter what American city this could have taken place in, I could have a sense of where this happened.

Probably the most famous living US sports broadcaster.

Cycling 1:30:00 [1]

Me cycling around coaching the Jr. Racers as they did intervals. It looked like it hurt a lot. Hmm, I should probably start joining them...

Strength Training 15:00 [1]

Some core at the end of training.

Orienteering Race race 1:57:55 [4]

Nationals Long.
Again, great course and great woods. No major mistakes, but with a lack of fitness legs weren't able to climb the many, many hills. Lots of mud and soft ground. I have no idea how I won the split going to the last control as Kendra and Phillip Turcanu both left me in their dust climbing the hill.

Orienteering Race 1:18:40 [4]

Nationals Middle.

Well, if you make over 15 minutes mistake on the second to last control, you're not very pleased.

Incredibly fun fast woods, great map and super course. GHO spends a long time running legs and testing courses for the elite and when you race one, you realize it is worth it.

Lovely day in the woods other than that one control.

Orienteering Race race 21:54 [5]

Sprint Nationals at McMaster. Probably about as fast I could run with my fitness, certainly wasn't clean. The courtyard between the Business School and Togo Sal has always slightly confused me. Few seconds around the tennis courts as well. Then the rest of it was lack of legs. Happy with the run.

Great arena around the Mac Track and really fun doing the announcing up high, felt like calling a track race from the press box.

Cycling 1:30:00 [1]

Very gentle cycling during nordic practice while the skiers roller-skied. Saving legs for the weekend.

Getting frost in Edmonton tonight. Looking forward to the warmth of Hamilton for a week.

Cycling 1:30:00 [1]

Well, maybe 90 minutes is a bit long as it includes Will and I watching people run a really fun Frank's race on Sask Drive (won by Frank the Beef as per usual). Nice easy ride to save the legs for the weekend. Good temp to ride and lots of fast looking runners on the trails.

Cross-country skiing 1:45:00 [1]

Edmonton Nordic training, mostly hill striding and upper-body pole training.

Some interesting Nationals predictions going on.

Monday Oct 7, 2013 #

Running warm up/down 40:00 [1]

Warming up and cooling down on a great night for running.

Orienteering Training race 21:00 [4]

Final Sprint training at the U of A to prep for Nationals. Another great course by Meghan Rance! We didn't use flags, but tried to get into some sort of flow.

The U of A is a really good sprint spot. Some really narrow spots through buildings, not many cars, pretty dense buildings.

Bunny count: 38 (give or take a couple)

Cross-country skiing 1:30:00 [1]

Ski drills with Ulf on Sunday morning, which caused me to miss the MEC gear-swap.

Wanted to ride in the afternoon but just ran out of time.

Orienteering Training 1:00:00 [3]

Excellent technical training at Blackfoot, Meghan Rance did the course, Wil's mom put out the pin-flags. Lots of contours only on open grassland.

Saw a pack of elk running by.

Fun area, I think it has potential to be used more, but the locals might be sick of it.

Running race 31:49 [5] 7.0 km (4:33 / km)

Uggg, tough Frank's Race for me. Felt really comfy the first half and then fell apart for the second.

Due to trail conditions the course was changed to a loop of the river mostly on bike trails. Not exactly a "fun" course compared to some of the other Frank's Races (ie the Emily Murphy one), but like any cross-country course, if you find it too easy, you're not running it fast/hard enough.

Sort of like Orienteering Sprint Races.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

Warm-up and cooling down.

Roller Skiing 2:00:00 [1]

Roller ski intervals coaching Edmonton Nordic. It was cold, a bit wet and while it was really nice freshly paved trail, also featured a really slippy yellow line.

Roller skiing still not as fun as one would think it should be.
