Running 1:00:00 [1]

Run with Will after work. Was zonked at work, so this helped.

Orienteering Race race 17:00 [5]

Corporate Challenge Race at Goldbar. As I was quoted, relays are always so much fun, thank god we only do them once a year...

Natalia went out first and smartly did not sprint out of the start and mess up. nice and deliberate and she had a way better run than I expected. Came back not too long after the leaders.

Was a fun course, about a Course 3 level. Some good climbs on the ski trails of Goldbar and it is always strange to Orienteer somewhere you're use to skiing.

Camille went out on her second time Orienteering ever. We were sitting in first place in our category and was feeling pretty good we'd have a solid result. She had a great first half of the course and then blew-up near the end. Still finished with a big smile.

And then, results and Camille's first punch didn't register or something. She was pretty upset and didn't get a good answer from the officials, but I guess nothing we could have done. She took off to pick-up her kids, but I guess I should have walked out with her to check out the flag. I got different answers from every person I spoke to, from "oh, it's Corp Challenge and if you say you were there we'll change it" to "them the rules, tough".

Too bad, it happens, and as usual, super fun event.
The lack of EOOC promotional material was strange.

Running 1:15:00 [1]

Just a miserable tough run after I think a lack of water at work today. I mostly drink decaf coffee, but just have not done a good job of hydrating.

Anyone want to do a run in Hamilton on June 1 or 2nd?

Telemark/Alpine 1:00:00 [2]

Last day of tele skiing for the year, at Sunshine. Slush Cup, which is code for snowboarders to get really drunk.

Snow was really tough to ski thought, especially with my technique.

Skied for about 4 hours.

Orienteering Training 40:00 [3]

Got to Canmore too late to get to Sunshine to ski, so went to the Nordic Centre and did the permanent course. Guessing at the time, course was pretty basic, but it's such a tricky area with all the trails.
Very good early season training. Stupid altitude. 1427m and lack of fitness

Woods were way better than I had remembered. Canada needs to host something big here.

Note

Nationals. I like it.

Running long 1:22:00 [2]

Morning run with PhilV. Legs were hurting for some of this, but just a great day for a run.

Busy week a head, 2 very serious meetings with movers and shakers and a job interview.

I should use it as an excuse to buy a new suit.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [1]

Warm-up before the 5 Peaks at Terwilliger. Great temp for a race, although a bit windy.

Big crowd out.

Orienteering Training 1:25:00 [3]

Training around Queen Eliz on a Magnus course.

This was tricky and might have been harder since I sort of know the area.

The homeless dudes camping make me feel like a grumpy old man.

Running 45:00 [2]

Just a wee run on Saturday. Then went to a Scenesterpalloza called the Royal Bison Craft fair. Hipsters a plenty!

Also, really nice in Edmonton. Finally.

Running 1:15:00 [1]

One Phil V is in town so got a run in after work to chat about skiing and gear. The cost of the new Salomon top end skate boots? You don't even want to think about it.

Orienteering Training 46:00 [4]

I really should get get some of the training actually logged.

Wednesday Night O Event (I still don't know how to describe these to people? Time Trial maybe? Training?) at Laurier Park. Great course by Will. Two sets of Butterfly loops.

Started with Peter MacKenzie. He wore the 90s team suit because of course he did! Some bobbles off the start as I had a hard time reading the map even at 1:7500. Super long leg was fine although I stepped in a soft patch of soil and nearly destroyed my leg. I think I face planted about 3 times during this.

Time is a guess. EOOC needs to do more courses like this.

I chatted with some vets about exploring the Camrose area for a map and was shocked that no one's done that before. Peter said he made a wee map in the past that consisted of one morning of mapping. There's ski trails and a college, sounds to me like a good place to explore.
