Running 50:00 [2]

Couldn't make the Orienteering so ran with Freddy late afternoon.

The woods directly north of St. Stephens in Old Chelsea are amazingly open. Same with southern end of Trail 1.

Running 50:00 [1]

Watched OUAA Cross Country Champs at Mooney's Bay and then went for a quick run late afternoon.

Guelph easily won both mens and womens and Tamara Jewett for U of T probably had the performance of the day in the ladies. McMaster won the silver in the ladies and placed 5th in the men. They weren't happy with the men's results, but that shows the level of expectation now for MAC.

Gavin Hamilton raced for U of T (would be an amazing Raid runner in the future post cross eligibility).

Ottawa U has lame kits (but at least better than Carleton!)

Who the hell are the Lakers?

Note

I cannot believe that the stupid St. Louis Cardinals are going to win the World Series this year. Rangers: this could be an ugly one, like a certain Game 7 in 1985 (and 86 I believe).

Running 45:00 [1]

Quick run after work.

Running 50:00 [1]

Run with FD down by the river, then up the canal and through town. Saw former roommate, former co-worker (aka Duncan) and the entire Guelph cross team in town for OUs.

Running 50:00 [2]

Dave Mac's Halloween run from Fortune. Excellent candy afterwards.

Found out that I don't think that either of my teammates can make the Peak2Peak training event.

But, have no fear, Alex Hutchinson did Orienteering in Australia and thus must be an expert by now I reckon.

And since Adrian Lambert also lived in AUS and thus we have 2 Aussies on the team, I think we'll be the toughest team in the RTH.

Running 45:00 [1]

River run.

Got my vintage iPhone 3G into action today. I'm sure I'll use a small percentage of it's capabilities, but at least that's off the list of things I need to get fixed. Laptop and a new pair of shoes might be next.

Running 1:14:00 [1]

Run with T-Rex from P7. Skyline and then King and back on Ridge.
Lovely day for a run.

Running 50:00 [1]

Interesting little run.

I'm now friends with Francine Darrioch who grew up doing track with Megan MacTavish and so she invited me for a quick run with her bf and a college teammate who also lives in Ottawa.

The teammate from UWV (I think) is Rebecca Stallwood, who's from Hamilton and was one of the top 5 and 10km runners in Canada for a while.

Her BF is this guy:

Luckily his legs are still really sore from the Toronto Marathon (he ran 2:12:56) so we were going pretty slow. He has crazy long legs and carried himself in the way that elite athletes and actors need to do.

He goes on my list of fast people I've done a run with such as Bunston, Reider, Nate Brennan, and Petr Kozák amongst many.

Running 1:00:00 [4]

Hill repeats up the back of Penguin with the XC Zone group. Running in rain which looked a bit like snow under the headlight.

Relentless lived-up to his name. Freddy made an appearance and I was shocked about his lack of knowledge of the names of the Westdale trails.

Must get job search a bit more into action.

Note

Die Another Day is on TV.

Worst Bond movie ever?
12 PM

Running 1:53:25 [1]

LSD run with Freddy. We said just over an hour and Sarah laughed as we always go longer and come back destroyed.

Old Chelsea to Pinks and back. On the way back felt like all uphill.

The Gats looked amazing, super open in parts.

Missing Briefing Sessions last night helped. Maybe see The Pelts tonight. (surf rock).

Running 35:00 [1]

Lovely fall weather (grey, blah, slight rain) for a quick run.

At work trying to determine exactly what USNORTHCOM does in relation to NORAD.

So to the experts of the Interweb, is the correct reaction to the idea that Orienteers won't watch an elite relay at the NAOC is either Collective Sigh or Facepalm?

Running 45:00 [1]

Blah run down by the river.

Saturday Oct 8, 2011 #

Orienteering Race 50:34 [5]

Canada Cup / Ontario Champs Middle.

Started early, took me a bit to get into the map. No legs, but the reduced speed helped me actually navigate a bit better.

Friday Oct 7, 2011 #

Running 45:00 [1]

Run along the river with Will Friday after work.

Thursday Oct 6, 2011 #

Orienteering Training 1:10:00 [3]

Combo of running to and from City Hall and then Jeff T's O-Tervals training in and around the canal. Was a pretty cool workout, although I found I really couldn't read the map once it started to get dark (I need new contacts).

Took us to place around the NAC and on top of the Rideau Centre that I've never been to.

Running warm up/down 1:00:00 [4]

XC Zone's Tuesday night training.

Dave took us on this fairly gnarly warm-up run near the bottom of Penguin.

Then it was 6x800m loops at the base of Penguin which I think is as good a workout as anything one can do in town.

I have no idea, but anyone out there know if the bottom end of Penguin has been mapped as well as the terrain just north of downtown Old Chelsea?

Running 45:00 [1]

Just a nasty blah night after a long day at work. Run down by the river in the cold and dark.

I think I have my Raid the Hammer team. It will feature two of the most accomplished pure runners ever to run the RTH (as well as myself). Both were on national teams but are now "recreational runners". One went to Westdale/Guelph and the other writes in the Globe. Same last name.

No pressure on me or anything.

Orienteering Race 1:28:19 [4]

B Meet at Lac Philippe. Didn't run very well, but wonderful day in the woods. Great job by Bill Meldrum.

Orienteering Training warm up/down 30:00 [1]

Combo of warming-up and picking up some flags at the end.
