Cross-country skiing (classic) 1:30:00 [2]

Classic ski at Goldbar. Snowing throughout and while they were grooming, it was super super soft. Not great grip, which I hope is the fault of the soft snow.

Told Edmonton Orienteering that I wasn't going to be able to put on an Adventure Run as a one-man-show to the professional level which it needs to be. And, due to that, they pulled the plug on it.

There's not going to be anyone Orienteering under 35 in this town by the fall.

Running 1:00:00 [2]

Saturday afternoon run with SW, who went way slower this time. Nice run on the snowy trails, about -10. Would have been a great day for a ski, but didn't want to take the time as I'm studying for a big interview on Tuesday.

Any law enforcement experts out there?

Cross-country skiing intervals (skating) 10:00 [4]

Some intervals with the team. The lungs were really really unhappy with this idea. Some serious coughing during this.

Cross-country skiing (skating) 1:00:00 [1]

Skiing around; just some cruising with the juniors. Chilly tonight with cold slow snow. I should really break out the RCSs because the Madshus are mega flat.

Skied with a summer Olympian from Edmonton for a while. He's planning on doing the Birkie and will do awesome.

Also found out that John Gamble, one of the ski coaches was the top Decathlete in Canada in the 1970s and still has a 1500m time which is ranked in the top 10 times in the history of the decathlon. He won the Canadian Champs in 1976 but wasn't sent to the Olympics (ah, Olympics selections...) John said he used to destroy Bruce Jenner in the 1500m.

It's getting cold again.....

Cross-country skiing (skating) 1:15:00 [2]

Really should have done classic.

Cross-country skiing 1:15:00 [2]

Lots of double polling around. Arm is really hurting. I might go play shinny this weekend just to injure it and have a tough story to go with it.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

First run with SW and she was started out telling me how slow she had to go because of a hard workout yesterday and then just hammered from the start.

Lungs are still feeling crap. And now I've done something to my right shoulder and arm. It must be something computer related, which sucks.

Running 45:00 [3]

So, I've been back from Europe for a week and I'm still jet-lagged. Woke up and looked at the clock and the first number was a 4. Not a good sign. Got up, did the dishes, tried to go back to bed, no dice.
So, might as well go for a run since I have CIC meetings after work. Was half expecting to see Tarno and Hammer infront of my place mocking me for being late.

River valley trails in perfect shape for running. Lungs are still really hurting from the cold.
Will probably need lots of coffee mid-afternoon.

Cross-country skiing (skate) 1:00:00 [1]

Ski with Mike Neary at Goldbar, he did a loppet the day before which I skipped. Snow was mega dry and really hardpacked.

Lots of talk about Olympic selection and WC selections and CCC inner workings.

Cross-country skiing (skating) 1:15:00 [1]

First ski in a bit after being sick and for some reason my right arm was killing me. It was mega hard packed and icy so mostly did double-pole on the flats.

Super nice day; broke out the zebra striped 1998 top which I'm not fit enough to wear without a vest.

Note
(sick)

Still sick and getting really bored at home. Would help if I could actually connect to my work email.

Note
(sick)

Feeling brutal, staying home from work. Nothing like calling in sick after being away from the office for 3 weeks.

Cross-country skiing (skating) 1:45:00 [2]

Ski skate at Ramsau in Austria on the way back from the Alps.
Ski trails of the 1999 World Champs, where Christian Hoffman
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Hoffmann
out kicked Thomas Alsgarrd in the relay. Lots of pictures of doped up Russians in 1999 and pictures of Walter Mayer posing with Austrians who peaked well for surprising medals.

Lots of skiers out, some guys with Austrian national suits on.

Gear was dominated by Salomon and Fischer with Atomic a close third. Obviously Cheesy Phil and Bryan Aller have done their work here. The largest number of Atomic boots I've ever seen; factory is close.

Flying from Bratislava to London Thursday. Predicting travel chaos.

Telemark/Alpine (Alpine) 1:00:00 [2]

A full day of alpine skiing at Flachau, home of Herman Maier.

The Austrians are really good skiers. Even with the amount they drink during a day of skiing.

Austrian Apres-Ski culture is very strange to say the least. Some of the worst Euro music I've ever heard in my life.
