Note

Sadly, no time for a run.

But, if one was trying to portage a canoe in downtown Ottawa (which is what we do in Canada), today was dangerous with all the lightening. This is what happened to Canada's greatest aluminum crime fighter, Mr. Canoehead.

I'm pretty sure Bender will be the only one who would have seen this before.

Running 40:00 [1]

Very easy run with Freddy from his place. Both of us were sore from Saturday. It was wet.

Then watched some Ladies World Cup footie. Christine Sinclair will be one of the most famous female Canadian athletes in a few days.

Running 1:30:00 [3]

Run with Freddy from P7 up along Ridge and then Burma, back through Fortune and to the car. Lots in the rain and very very wet by the end.

Both of us pushed harder than we thought we were.

Running 1:05:00 [1]

Friday after work run with Karl and Megan to celebrate Megan's birthday and then to Chelsea Pub. Good little group of XC Ottawa skiers.

Karl led this "adventure" run through a monsoon which mostly consisted of him running us through small rivers while going "this must be just like orienteering". There was a lot of water.

We saw a beaver, the girls were very very excited.

Note

So is this a copywrite infringement or just a strange name for a band?

http://www.ottawabluesfest.ca/performance/809

Looks like their old name (That's the Spirit) was much worse.

Canadian Jukola Club Rankings

This is of course my own thoughts based on a number of criteria (including the Gilles Duceppe Tractor Factor and traditional HOF Indicators).

I'll add details later. Decided to not go with regional approach that Hammer suggested because the point of this is to compare clubs themselves. Only men, Venla rankings in the future (unless anyone else has thought of this).

Jukola Top Seven.

1) Ottawa OC
2) GVOC (help from Sage)
3) Cde. Bois MB
4) GHO
5) Yukon
6) ???
7) ???

Rational and Other clubs TBD.

Running 45:00 [2]

Quick run after work along the river.

Signed Letter of Offer from Public Safety today. Time to cut the cord out west.

Running 45:00 [1]

Drove back to Ottawa after breakfast at Tremblant.

Watched the Preston St. Crit and had forgotten how totally confusing watching cycling can be from the ground. One wee crash in front of me, that's all.

Then a run down by the river as it cooled down.

Thinking yesterday during my run that my father would have really enjoyed these big trail races and probably would have become quite an elite masters runner with his track and Orienteering background.

Running 35:00 [2]

Quick morning run to shake out the cobwebs from last night.

Only Ottawa could host a club night called Briefing Sessions.

Running 1:10:00 [3]

So I missed the Ultimate XC entry deadline, but went up to hangout at Tremblant and went for a lovely run on the race course. Super day and good to see KillerK and Nicky crashed out at the finish. Fun dinner with the Southern Ontario crowd.

Pretty impressive event and for the price it had better be.

Of course Tremblant would be an awesome race center for a big Orienteering weekend.

Running 45:00 [1]

Very sluggish run along the river. Lack of sleep this week I think. I hope that's the reason.

Note

I'm going to have to buy this book soon:

http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/06/06/the-last-w...

I would guess that 92% of my female friends of that time owned a Grapes of Wrath album. Probably in cassette form.

Running 1:10:00 [1]

XC Zone's Tues Trail run from Fortune. One of Dave's "let's go find abandoned trails that haven't been run on for a decade and are now swamps" runs. Pretty slow early on until on the way back RPL went into the lead up a big hill heading to the Fortune Race trails and dropped the hammer. The Racing Trails (as Moxley says "you have to be in shape to race well on these") are full of nettles. Not a fun section to close on.

Only fell once, but did it in front of the girls I was running with. Excellent form.

Running 50:00 [1]

Just a wee run down by the river before watching Vancouver fall apart against Boston.

There's going to be a lot of very full yoga classes in Vancouver between now and Weds. Lots of stressed and tense people on the West Coast.

Still hunting for a Tremblant XC entry...

Running 1:10:00 [2]

Run with RPL up in the Gats from Keogan. Felt drained the whole time and couldn't hang onto Pat.

And, missing the Ultimate XC entry and now on the hunt for an entry. Stupid 6:00 closing time (I only had the entire day to get it done of course). Sucks.

Saturday Jun 11, 2011 #

Running 1:15:00 [2]

Trail run in the Gats from P7. Got a wee bit lost in and around the Parkways and King Mt, but got sorted eventually.

Now back to looking over bikes with my mom and brother to sort out a bike her for. Hopefully the end of a multi year process.

Thursday Jun 9, 2011 #

Strength Training 15:00 [1]

Did some strength training at home waiting for mom and brother to arrive in town.

About to buy new trail shoes. Anyone have any winners to suggest?

Sunday Jun 5, 2011 #

Note

Fun weekend in Toronto although too much driving and no training.

But lots of strolling on Queen West and then a great wedding at the Distillery District. Luckily with a wedding between a Brit and Argentinean no discussions about football.

Bought vintage ankle boots as well as vest and "vintage H&M" coat.

Also, a mountain bike from Bender!

Could pull off living in Toronto, but the right neighbourhood would be key.

NYC is winning if it's not more time in southern Ontario.

Thursday Jun 2, 2011 #

Note

I'll probably have a long weekend between jobs at the end of the month.

New York City versus Boston.

Or Hamilton.

Any thoughts?
