Running 1:15:00 [1]

Run along the river, really nice day.

Trying to be productive..... Busy weekend and week.

Cross-country skiing (skating) 1:30:00 [2]

After waiting for the furnace guy to arrive and fix things, went with RPL to P7 and a ski along Ridge. Burma was a bit silly, which really slowed things down.

Now zonked

Event: Engadin 24

Note

Ran out of time after work to get a run in. Went to MEC and bought neoprene socks to try out (only $10, thank you MEC.)

Watched the rest of The Winter's Bone. Very intense, very well made movie. Some serious acting going on there.

Cross-country skiing race (skate) 1:25:18 [4] 29.0 km (2:56 / km)

Gatineau Loppet 29km skate race. Ski racing is hard!

Had wicked fast skis on the downhills, for some reason not as fast on the uphills. Starting in the C wave didn't help, but skied with Craig Storey for the first while before we got separated by people falling.

Really slow on Pink Lake up hill, just couldn't take the grinding climb.

Felt good on the way back after the turn-around at P5. Very glad not to ski the 50 as I was in no mood for Penguin.

Ended up 52 place, 6 in class.

Cross-country skiing (skating) 30:00 [1]

A little ski with Dougie Mahoney in the afternoon after working the expo all day.

Waxed skiis for a couple of friends and did a decent job I think. Blue klister is interesting stuff.

Waxing for tomorrow:
1) Layer of Swix CH4
2) Graphite
3) Two layers of Vauhti LF Green

That should do it.

Running 45:00 [1]

Really wet sloppy run after work and before doing some ski waxing for KK and RPL's gf.

Evidently the race has been shifted to only the parkways. Lovely.

Cross-country skiing tempo (skating) 1:15:00 [3]

Hammer ski on super mega fast conditions from P7. Ridge and Burma and some Parkway thrown in for kicks. Hard to push it on Burma since it was so fast and couldn't see great.

Note

I have a friend's pair of old skate skis to sell/give to someone tall.

Madshus 200cm bought at Litzens circa 1993.

Should be well over 6' and light weight to take them.

NNN race skate binding which is probably worth more than the ski and if you just want that, let me know.

If you happen to need a pair of rock skis, these are them.

Cross-country skiing (skating) 1:15:00 [3]

Hard tempo like ski in the cold of -20 from P7.

I can still offset like a demon. Now I need to either go back in time to 1994 or else get the rest of my skating in order.

Running 55:00 [3]

Man, that's a cold cold wind out there.

Good news, I think I found a house. The dude who's there now has about 7 bikes stored there so I think my 7ish pair of skiis will be fine.

Bad news, starts in April.

Cross-country skiing (Skating) 1:45:00 [3]

Went to watch Eastern Champs Distance race and gave feeds to XCOttawa which was fun. Won easily by Graham Nishikawa (aka coolest name in Canadian skiing), guys who had rough sprint days on Saturday were at a disadvantage today.

Bunch of Orienteers racing (Colin, Lee, Erik Carleton, Karl Saidla {in the spring}. Didn't see results.

Then went for a ski from P7 along Ridge, then Burma and pushing hard in parts. Saw Bryan Szop and gf as well as Moxley and some others.

Didn't go to Ski-O because of apartment hunting and sadly have failed in quest to find new spot still.

Running 45:00 [1]

Quick morning run before heading to Fresh Air for a fun-filled day of retail followed by trying and failing to look for apartments.

Running 45:00 [2]

Run after work along the river. Lovely day, too bad I was inside for the whole thing.

Apartment hunting sucks.

Cross-country skiing 2:00:00 [1]

Dave Mac's Downhill ski practice for nordic skiers at Fortune. Not sure how much "training" it was, but just doing some drills was ok. Such a great night to be on snow, can't complain. Got to see Maurice Samm a bit. Bryan Szopp's going to give me tele lessons eventually. Fun night and I didn't break any equipment.

Ice Skating race 21:33 [5]

Skate leg for the Winter Tri.
Realized very very quickly that I was in trouble as my lower back had none, zero, zip, interest in being in a proper speed skating position and told me so early and often.

Kept missing out on trains and just didn't enjoy this at all, which sucked because I really enjoyed it the previous time I've done the race.

Caitlin Crooks gave me a "push" at the finish to let me know she was sitting on me for a bit.

At least the new ice blades worked well.

Cross-country skiing race 27:14 [5]

Ski section, pretty decent conditions for what they could work with. Basically trying to get things in order to push a bit on the skis, but not great. Carley Kenwall went past me pretty quick. Was able to drop CC soon and then tried to pass people quickly when I could.
Body wasn't feeling good, lack of doing any ski intensity.

Running race 18:59 [5] 3.5 km (5:25 / km)

So, a rather short "5km" and pretty lame run section. Somehow it was thought that it would be a good idea to have the course on the actual ice of the canal for the start and finish. Pretty surprised no one took someone out on here.

Saw Brent Curry (former Raid the Hammer teammate) and Robbie coming back as the top finishers. Course was obviously short which was strange as the turn-around point could have been anywhere along the canal. I didn't complain because I was really toast then.

Heard later that the race director raced. I think if you get the distance wrong in a 5km by 1.5km you might want to focus on your logistics and not jump into the race.

Some of the local celebs who raced:
KillerK, BG and Marketa, Robbie, J-Roc, various ex-gfs of Bursey, T-Rex, Andrea McNeil and Graham Frank (I think I raced him in HS).

Running 35:00 [3]

Hard run as it's cold and really snowy. And really zonked.

Why would one of the most experienced Orienteers on Attackpoint ask what vetting is? Must be a back story?
