Started really well, slight loss at 6 avoiding some oob too far, 8 came up quicker than expecting so wasn't so smooth then hadn't planned 9 so faffed a bit towards it. Didn't panic though so although lost time could have been a lot worse. Picked a route on the long one and stuck to my guns all the way which was please about. Little bit of faffing at start of next long one, should have invested time earlier. Finished strong from 12 - finish apart from one extra unnecessary look at the map on 2nd last control.
I finished happy with my race regardless of the qualification outcome. I haven't ran an international race where I haven't been really disappointed as have always produced a performance below my normal. Obviously it's extremely gutting to finish 16th with 15 to qualify but initially I wasn't even supposed to be going to this race and the standard is so high, with the top nations having 8 runners, realistically I wasn't going to qualify. My heat seemed extra tough and I exceeded my ranking taking some good scalps.
This race is a big step forward, I felt in control and having really focused on my start for the past few weeks I am really happy that this part went really well. I've got a great group of people around me supporting me so hopefully this is just the start of better things :).

Such a long time in quarantine, weird starting last after people who were much better than me. Started well again, already gaining on the girl in front after two controls. However I let this distract me and sort of wiggled to 3, then changed my plan on 4 going the way she had then hadn't planned 5. Poor route up the hill, not properly planning, pushed hard but hadn't planned the end so had to stop. Almost panicked but controlled it but did overshoot my junction. Reset and ok again getting back into a flow, great to 8 but think I missed the route to 9/wrong route to 10. Should have got on with 11 quicker as double checked my route to 12. Happy with 12 as actually going the long leg right. Confused a bit with the tapes after 13 so should have cut. Fine to end.
Not as good as this morning but not a disaster and still more positive than my previous international races. Overall I handled my nerves a lot better and there were lots of good parts again too. Loved every minute of it but lots to work on.
