Running warm up/down 20:19 [3] 2.71 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX 6

Inc. drills.

Orienteering race 40:50 [5] 7.1 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX 6

Scottish relays. Handicap 14+ with Dad and John. I got to run a first leg B which was same as women's open. Again a mixed bag. Comparing splits I was actually running as well as the girls up the front on the majority of controls despite not being in the front packs but again made too many mistakes. Physically good, just too much rushing and giving myself time to make logical decisions. Must take the positives too.

Initially I wanted to go around the path the whole way to 1 but halfway down the path everyone ahead of me turned left so I felt I should too. I didn't really like this route so when came to the stream I decided not to cut and go my own route as those ahead may have a different control. I lost at least 40secs here and therefore the pack. Wrong block trying to catch up those ahead at so lost another 15secs+. A bit hesitant to 10 as it didn't look as expected but this time I actually slowed down and checked before running off. Went to the wrong side of the path on 11 when if I'd actually looked could see 11 from the path, another 10secs lost, then missed the path towards 12 (another 10secs) so re-passed by those I'd caught and those ahead got away. Frustrated I pushed on and didn't know where I was attacking was about to go in wrong side and dived off with everyone else towards a wrong control then had to hack through the green to mine. Lost 30secs....and those I'd passed past me again. I took a bit of a safe route to 15 and 16 and then decided to stay on the path to 17 and managed to pass the group in front for about the 4th (and final) time. Fine from there in, careful into 20 as it was last tricky one and was actually happy to have the run around the field at the end as it suited me and caught more of those ahead and gapped those behind. Should have easily ran high 38s which I'd have been pretty happy with.

Despite all of this actually came back quite high up in the handicap and 2nd in class. Then Dad had a great run (although was a bit of a shark on D) to send John out in the lead. Unfortunately passed by a junior team (who beat us by 1min) but a great finish by John meant we won the senior handicap overall by 7secs and our class by amount 9mins so I can't really moan that much.

Running warm up/down 38:24 [3] 6.21 km (6:11 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX 6

To start and usual drills etc.
Back from finish.
I always moan when it's a distance to start/from finish but I tend to do similar amount in wu/d anyway so it's actually better than running laps of a field - and I had company to the start and halfway back from the finish so passed quickly.

Orienteering race 1:29:19 [5] 13.22 km (6:45 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX 6

Scottish long champs - Gullane. A very mixed bag, a lot of positives but a negative patch mainly in the middle really let me down leaving me with a poor result. When I got it right I was running quite a bit better than those around me but I made too many mistakes and that's orienteering. However the only none sprint orienteering I've done relatively recently was JK....so probably a bit rusty - lot I can work on to hopefully piece it altogether for a better result. Physically held up well for week 10/10 for B12.

Felt a bit flustered at the start as although my start time was 14:40 on the start list, it said on the sheet I was 14:28 (nowhere can I see this as have double checked. Ended up starting between the two but was worried they'd add time onto my time. Struggled on 5, poor route out previous control then don't think the bush was quite right as I definitely came of the path jct. Lost time (like everyone) on the control in the wrong place at 10. Should have ran path no beach to 11. Could barely even see the feature on 12 and with all the extra vegetation and wrongly assumed the control was at the top of the hill then had to hunt around the slope. Slightly ran past 13 as struggled to make sense of the contours. Really hesitant on 15 as again struggled with vagueness, came across a control on a bush halfway but couldn't see it on the map. Then ended up standing right next to control for a while. Mistake on 16 as I ran the wrong direction then couldn't believe the control was mine as was barely a hill. A bit hesitant on 18 when I was actually doing fine but poor direction out of it. Barely saw a sole from here on. Rubbish to 21 as I didn't concentrate coming out of the control so didn't end up where I intended and then was rubbish through the tricky paths (I always struggle here). Poor back through to 23 again. Then after I got to the wood again I got a bit of a second wind somehow and was going well until 30 where I struggle with the vagueness, again saw some unmapped bushes and hesitated stopping before the control, struggled to relocate. Actually just had to go about 20m further, bang on line. Fine through the last bit but then wasn't confident enough going to the last control and was pulled too low by Claire who'd caught me in the last loop.

shoes: Asics GT-1000 2

Strength and Conditioning 25:00 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-1000 2

Changed things slightly but still focused on gluts/hips, agility, plyos, core and mobility. Thankfully not in as much pain today as expected DOMS to get worse.

Yoga 45:00 [0]

Running warm up/down 48:20 [3] 8.49 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Hyper Speed 6

To/from Meadows. Little loop/drills before. Then a bit further than intended after as carried away chatting.

Running race 11:36 [5] 2.0 mi (5:48 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Hyper Speed 6

Meadows 2mile. Tough after session last night but keen to do some of these as they're really good training. Despite this only 2secs off my PB for that course so seems I'm reaching the fitness I had two years ago. Went off too fast again despite trying not to as lost speed in the tight corners so tried to push on.

Running warm up/down 17:00 [3] 3.0 km (5:40 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4

Strength and Conditioning 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4

Long session again as in at 6:30am as haven't seen coach for a few weeks and this was only time he could do, at least my body wasn't physically tired after a rest yesterday. Not my favourite session ever... but good to get feedback and to discuss how to move forward.

Running warm up/down 41:35 [3] 7.62 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4

Stomach still suffering from wheat, inc. 15mins AT. Legs felt good despite the gym.

Note

Plan is to focus on my running for the next few months, hopefully some PBs and gain confidence in my fitness again to carry forward into my orienteering - which I plan to focus on again from August for some late season races SHI/British Sprint/Middle.
