XC Skiing (Classic) 15:00 [3]

At Weston with the kids. Wanted to see how skiing is for my knee so I grabbed Mark's waxless clunker skis, but didn't really do any skiing as I kept bumping into people and talking :)

Walking (Orienteering) 30:00 [3]

Kristin organized another informal training at the Sheepfold so I hang some streamers for the kids.

Walking (Orienteering) 30:00 [3]

And then doing the course with the kids. I wasn't sure how good the trails on the map are so I didn't want to send them out by themselves and risking them getting confused and lost so we did a more orange level course together. Both precision and rough compass bearings as well as following contours. Lukas is doing great, while Tor is more interested in playing.

Biking (Stationary biking) 10:00 [3]

Warm up.

PT exercises 20:00 [3]

Back to the physical therapist, who could confirm that the knee is indeed more swollen. She cut out some of the exercises, but thinks I am fine continuing to do some moderate biking and walking as long as the knee doesn't get much worse.

Note

Made an appointment to see a sports medicine physician next week. Nice not to be on Mark's insurance anymore as it had a $2,000 deductible before paying anything for PT or imaging.

Note

Skipped the biking as I had meetings at MGH both in the morning and afternoon. I very much prefer the biking along the waterfront and the ferry over taking the crowded red line during rush hour.

Note

The biking yesterday was unfortunately not good for my knee. It is really stiff and uncomfortable when I have been sitting for a while and there is a more sharp pain towards the inside when walking up and down stairs. Also swollen behind the knee.

Biking 10:00 [3]

Wanted to minimize the biking to avoid more knee pain so I biked from South Station to Long Wharf and jumped on the Charlestown Navy Yard ferry. And then a short bike ride from the ferry to the lab. Quite convenient that there are Bluebike stations not too far from the ferry. And quite fun to commute by ferry - never done that before!
4 PM

Biking 10:00 [3]

Same commute as in the morning, but in the reverse. I don't think I save any time by the ferry, but less biking.

Biking 20:00 [3]

Started a new job out in Charlestown (in the same lab as Becky!) after enjoying almost a year as a stay-at-home wife. The commute is pretty awful, but I have thankfully only promised to come in three times a week :). The plan is to take the commuter rail to South Station and bike from there using a Bluebike. A little slippery with a dusting of snow/ice, but otherwise a nice bike ride mainly on protected bike paths and much of it close to the waterfront.
4 PM

Biking 30:00 [3]

This bike ride was not as enjoyable as the morning one with much more traffic. This was partly due to that the bike lane over the Charlestown bridge was closed due to construction work, but also since most turns were left turns where I had to cross traffic whereas the morning ride had all right turns avoiding the traffic.

Walking 40:00 [3]

Picked up the streamers from yesterday. Knee distinctly unhappy so no PT today, only stretching and foam rolling.
