Orienteering 58:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:15 / km)

After the previous day was a bit apprehensive about this event but was still looking forward to the competition and challenge. Was a wonderful event. the day was hottish but not too unpleasant. Course was very good and with lots of route choice and navigational challenges. Enjoyed it a lot even though I made mistakes. Fell over on the way to number 1, tore a hole in my map between 2 and 3 and broke my compass. Missed control 3 because I could not decide which side of the creek it was on due to the hole in my map. Guessed wrong. Made a bad mistake on 7 as my compassing was poor and missed it. Like to think it was because of the huge amount of air in my compass but may have to accept it was poor skills.
Day was made even better by the spectacle of the elite races and also by the fact that Aislinn finally had a break through and hung on to come 3rd with a strong run.
Great fun, great event, great day all round.

Orienteering 35:00 [3] 5.0 km (7:00 / km)

NOL event in Canberra. Amazingly well organised event and a great spectacle with very good commentary for the elites. Was looking forward to my event but did not seem to be able to do anything right. Missed a termite mound just of a track because I could not see it and panicked. Turned my map over on the dead leg around the stadium to look at the second half and totally missed the junction I should have taken. Turned a 3 minute leg into a 9 minute one.
A few things annoyed me and without trying to be too critical, I need to say them. No north arrows on the map gave me some problem as I stopped several times to look at the words on the map and then turn it around. The mens 55 course was only 3.5k and about 1.5 of this was spent on long legs on tracks. Location of some of the termite mounds needs to be worked on. Would like something a little more technical if I have to pay for 2 flights, care hire, 2 nights accommodation and meals.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)

Put out tapes for Judy near Smythesdale. Map I used was based on 1 to 25000 with 10m contours. Nice area but a lot of interpretation needed. Still able to find the major features easily.

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 km (8:45 / km)

Checking and tagging again for the State Series Event. Went passed a tag I had put out yesterday and it was gone. Either the birds like it or someone removed it. Bit of a puzzle. Hope it is the only one.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 8.0 km (11:15 / km)

Tagging controls for the State Series. Spent a lot more time than this but only covered 8 km.
