Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 11.0 km (8:11 / km)

Trained with Kido and Judy at Jim Crow. As we will be OT when the State Event is on it seemed a good idea to go and at least train there to see what we will be missing. Dug up the same maps that I used for the Vic Champs in 1988.
Really enjoyed the area a lot. Great forest and another reason as to why this is a better terrain than Bendigo.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

Putting out and collecting controls for our event at Canadian. Stopped and started my watch to see how long I ran. Some times I forgot to turn restart it and it resets if off for too long. This is a close estimate of my running time. Lot of work for about 12 people. Ran 3k setting up and collecting controls for a novice course for 1 kid.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3] 7.0 km (10:43 / km)

Used the old Slatey Crk map and ran o the area around Chapel Flat. Hanging controls for Judy but I got so lost in the mining area that she caught me on each of the first 3 controls. Terrain is fabulous but the map is crap. Contours are ok but the mining interpretation is unreadable in some sections. Depressing in a way because I originally thought it would be easy to upgrade the map but you would have to start again and it would take hours just to get some of the detail right. Oh well.

Orienteering race 30:00 [5] ***** 3.0 km (10:00 / km)

Ran a 10 min w/u around the model map controls and then 21 minutes on sprint course. Did not do well from the start. Ran past the start flag and down the spur it was marked above. Crossed gully b/n the 2 spurs to ensure I ran over a knoll and into control. Problem was the start triangle was placed closer to the second spur so I ran down the wrong spur and ended up in the wrong place. If I had followed my own coaching of down gullies and up spurs I would have noticed the problem straight away and not made this error. As it is this problem highlighted the way I orienteered. Rushed at things with no set plan and over ran controls or lost confidence on the way.

Except for positioning of the start triangle this was a great course. The model map as a warm up was great and made for a very professional event. Pity I was too stupid to do it justice.

Orienteering 30:00 [3] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)

Ran a warm down with Chris after the event around tracks through the course. Checked out the position of the Start triangle.
