Orienteering race 1:19:00 [4] 7.9 km (10:00 / km)

Orienteered well on this course. Only some small wobbles in a couple of the circles. Took very wide routes on the long legs to avoid having to struggle up and down rocky slopes. With my very poor level of fitness I could keep moving at least a very slow jog if it was less green or on a track.

Was still very slow throughout however.
My Course on Judys Map. Could not find mine

Orienteering 1:17:00 [3] 5.5 km (14:00 / km)

Did not enjoy this event at all. I really struggled to read the map and locate the controls. About 1/3 of the way through the course I realised this was not down to my navigation. Would almost find a control, could not make the map fit so went back to a point where I knew where I was and start again and end up in the same place. Would then start seek and destroy method of navigation until I found the control. To my mind the map was dreadful. Why we could not use the newest version of this area at 1:7500 is a mystery.
Here is a example of my control 16

Took me 3 goes to find it and I was in the correct place according to the map.

Here is Alex T version of the same place.

No wonder it took me 8 minutes to find it.

Running 40:00 [3] 5.0 km (8:00 / km)

Jog with the dog on tracks in the forest. Humid but cool out. Really nice with a very slight drizzle. Very rare!

Wednesday Mar 19, 2014 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 km (8:34 / km)

With Judy and the dog out in the forest. Hung tapes for Judy then spent the rest of the time jogging tracks and around clumps of bracken to get some idea of where they should be on the map.

Sunday Mar 16, 2014 #

Orienteering 1:17:00 [3] 8.0 km (9:38 / km)

With Judy. Hung tapes for 3.5km. Very slow in Difficult terrain. Then jogged mostly on tracks for the rest.

Monday Mar 10, 2014 #

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 3.8 km (10:32 / km)

With Judy and the dog again. Put out tapes and then sat and swatted flies until Judy finished. Not very interested in doing more today. Had a bad cold all last week and seemed to struggle today. Intended to run some more but bad case of cbf.

Orienteering 1:06:00 [3] 6.0 km (11:00 / km)

Entered M2 course at Baw Baw thinking it would be shorter than M1. Unfortunately it was the same. Did ok early but navigated from 5 to 8. Dill! Lost a lot of interest after that specially when I started going up and down ski runs. Too physical for wimpy old me. Intended to be unofficial anyway as I did do the map so pulled out at 17.
Map seemed to read ok. Some obvious errors but nothing major. As Aislinn said, it reads well when moving at speed, and that is the aim of mapping I suppose.

Saturday Mar 8, 2014 #

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 4.5 km (8:53 / km)

At St Georges lake. Hung tapes for Judy and her friend. Very easy course using the tracks around the lake

Sunday Mar 2, 2014 #

Orienteering 1:14:00 [3] 7.0 km (10:34 / km)

Very slow today. Getting tired I assume. Put out tapes for Judy on a 2k course. Was very hard to decide exactly the correct spot sometimes. Then jogged another 4k. Up and down very steep hills.
