Running 1:04:00 [3] 11.0 km (5:49 / km)

First run for a week and a half. Was odd to run continuously without pushing through undergrowth, clambering over rocks or just stopping to work our where I was. Running actually felt ok. This was either because I am well rested or I am actually a bit fitter. Time will tell.

Note

No training for a few days as I am off to Edinburgh with Judy for a conference. Bit sorry to miss the last day of Swiss O week as it looks like it will be the most interesting. Next event for me will be the public races at WOC on about Aug 13.

Orienteering race 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Back at 2200 m for a 5.5 km course. My best run of the week by far. 50:53 for the course with a couple of wobbles that cost me about 4 min. There ended up being 12 people between 46 and 51 minutes. Very open terrian with no trees. Some very complex areas in the middle of the course with very difficult to interpret sections of mapping. Was the easiest day to run by far as I ran for most of the course instead of walking 80% of it.

Orienteering 1:23:00 [5] 7.0 km (11:51 / km)

Cahir lift to the start at 2200m and then a mostly across a steep slope and down to the finish at the bottom of the chair lift. No disasters in this course but did struggle a lot with the cross contours and down legs. Lost significant time on 2 of them. A 1:5000 inset near the end was a bit of fun and quite technical. Overal I am just very slow and running down stepp hills and rough terrain plays havoc with my ankle. To old, ro slow and too fat. Winner did 57.

Orienteering race 1:11:00 [5] 7.0 km (10:09 / km)

Three cable car trips up to this event. 2700m up at the base of a glacier. Terrain was mostly bare rock with some legs a little lower in the grass. Almost half the map was grey.
Had a mental blow out going to one and could not work it out. Lost total confidence in where I was and relocated 4 times. Twice of the start. Finally got going and did ok for the rest.

Met up with my follower from yesterday and had him follow me for the next 5 controls. hesitated a lot on a long leg and he got away from me. Was not too confident about following him but probably should have as he did ok for the rest.

Orienteering race 1:23:00 [5] 8.0 km (10:23 / km)

Day 2 Swiss O week. Cable car ride to the top so it was a very high event. 2200 m up. Scenery amazing. Orienteering gruesome with over 7% climb. 30 contours up to the 1st control. I made a mistake so added on another 10 contours. Ok for the rest but very slow with a lot of walking. Terrain was open high plain meadows.

On the way to the first control got asked where I was twice by the same person. It was just after he asked the first time that I made a mistake. Aproaching control 4 was asked again by another person who then followed me for the rest of the course.
Very common occurance here. It is rare not to be asked.
