Orienteering with Judy at Creswick Diggings

Orienteering race 1:06:00 [5] 7.0 km (9:26 / km)

State series event at Glenluce. All legs similar length with a loop of 4 short legs near the end. First 4 controls on major line features. Nice forest but overall not very difficult. Bit of a hesitation at 11 as the description said northern rocks but circle was around the southern one. Control 14(165) was my only mistake as it was in an unmapped slot. Went straight to the gully it should have been in by running just below the pit above it. No control. Relocated of a nearby narrow gully beside the control and back to the same place. No control. Back up the hill to the pit and then back to the same place. No control. About to give up when I decided to have a look about to see where it was. Found it lower down in an unmapped bit of mining. Reported to the organisers who expressed disbelief.
Had to leave early as Aislinn was catching a train home. Just as I was leaving was informed that both the course setter and controller had checked it and the control was in the correct place. Have to shake my head in disbelief here. Unless the control has been moved it could not possibly be correct and the fact that others are convinced it is is a bit of an indictment.

Orienteering race 55:00 [4] 5.0 km (11:00 / km)

Middle distance event at Mineral Springs. Did course 1 so it was far from a middle distance for me. Was a very good course that offered many challenges. Lots of short legs in the green joined by long legs across the easier stuff with route choice. See invisibles log for the courses. I found it quite tuff. Ian Lawford did it in 37.

Orienteering race 27:00 [5] 3.0 km (9:00 / km)

Sprint style event on the other side of the road from the morning event. I found this really physical. Just not fit enough. on 1:5000 map but not very hard navigation. No short sharp legs with direction changes to keep you on edge.

Orienteering 56:00 [3] 6.5 km (8:37 / km)

In the pissing rain at Nuggety Dam. Put out tags for judy. Dog still has a bad hip so could not come again. Talk about a sad soulful look it gave me as we were leaving.

Orienteering 1:45:00 [3] 10.5 km (10:00 / km)

Orienteering with Kido and Judy at Jim Crow. Well really Butterfly Jim. Put out tags for Aislinn while she put some out foe Judy and ran the rest. The dog stayed home today with a sore hip. It was not happy as it gets excited as soon as it recognises the signs of us going out in the forest. Not quite sure what sets it off. It could be shoes I put on first, or the getting the esky out of the cupboard.

Orienteering race 1:02:00 [5] 8.4 km (7:23 / km)

Bendigo event at Sedgwick. A couple f really good long legs. Started fast and was feeling good but by the last 5 controls I was done. Aislinn said on the way to the event that this map was not her favourite. Too steep she said. I laughed, argued it was just undulating and bragged about a 20+km long event I did here a long time ago. Well I must have been on drugs because it did seem very steep today.
