Orienteering race 37:00 [5] 5.7 km (6:29 / km)

Vic relays near Melbourne.
Have been quite ill since Thursday and was very concerned about this event. Plenty of drugs and Ventolin seemed to help. Ran OK but could not seem to push it. The up hill from control 6 to the trig point took its toll. Was passed by Morton during this slog.
No mistakes, just a bit hesitant at times. The most time lost was when I could not find the start triangle on the map and had to stand still and work it out. As we lost by 50 sec this was not good.
Odd sort of event. About 200 people but it seemed to lack atmosphere. No PA. Would have been nice to hear what was happening. No presentations and difficult to see and interpret results. This was made even harder by the fact that runners swapped SI sticks rather than change names in the computer.

Note

Went to the footy to watch the Hawks v Pies. Was resigned to the fact that Hawks would struggle to win but hoped they would put up a fight.
Great result and a very tough bruising and exiting game. Loved every minute of it.
I love watching the Hawks win but I think I like watching the pies loose even better.

Go the Hawks

Orienteering 1:06:00 [3] 7.0 km (9:26 / km)

Collecting controls from Nerina. Kept putting this off because I did not want to go out in the rain. Finally had to get it done rain or not as I was concerned they may have gone missing if I left them any longer. Fortunately I did not need to worry.

Orienteering 1:45:00 [3] 13.0 km (8:05 / km)

Judy's birthday and she had the say on what to do for the day. She wanted a picnic lunch with home made pizza at Kooyoora. As a result we kooked (I think that should read cooked but I cant change it now) the night before and headed of for a training day at Kooyoora. Put out tape for Judy and then Kido and I did a pairs simplification exercise on the southern section of the map. Hard but really good. had our lunch at the sand quarry. Surprise suprise, it was full of water. Neadless to say I am now quite tired.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] **** 9.0 km (8:53 / km)

Hanging controls in Nerina for our Saturday local event. Lots of stopping and starting but have most of them locked to trees in the forest. Lets hope they are still there tomorrow.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] *** 11.0 km (7:16 / km)

Out to Springdallah with Judy. Chose a section we have not been on before. Hung tapes for Judy and then followed around again to pick them up. Only problem with that was when I got back to the car there was no sign of Judy. Had to go back and hang the tapes again. When I finally met Judy she said "I must be having a bad day I cant find 5, 6 and 7" That because I had already collected them. Oh well!!. Still a bit of a mystery where I passed her on my second loop.

Orienteering race 1:30:00 [3] 12.0 km (7:30 / km)

Course 4 at Eppaloch. A hesitations in places but basically a prety easy course. My normal approach in this country is to point the copass and run. Only problem with that is you have to be fit enough to run fast. Lots of problems with constant mist and glasses. Stopped several times to clean the lenses. Could seem to get them clear enough to be able to see if I tried to do it on the run. Lost many minutes doing this. May have to visit the eye man and get a contact lens.

Did course 6 with Kido to work on the fitness. We did the course in 32 minutes.
