Orienteering race 58:00 [3] 7.0 km (8:17 / km)

Last Day of 5 Days on Soapy Flat. Consistent run but slow as I was tired. Fun Course set by STK66. The course was challenging and kept us out of the worst of the green. After dire warnings as to the Hard Day in the Office I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Well done STK66 and thanks for a great event. Kido made a silly error and I had a 17 sec victory today after getting done by 5 to 10 min over the previous 4 days.

Orienteering 1:03:00 [3] **** 7.0 km (9:00 / km)

Hung tags for Kido and Judy in the mining area on the Old Slatey Creek map around Chapel Flat. Great area and lovely running conditions. Interpretation of the mining is vague at best. Could be a fabulous map with some work. Dog rolled in something dead and so we had to find a dam to throw him in before driving home in the car with him. The smell was appalling.

Swimming 46:00 [3] 2.0 km (23:00 / km)

Solid 2km swim at Eureka Pool. I seem t be getting a little faster but I still seem to be very slow.

Orienteering 1:28:00 [3] 14.0 km (6:17 / km)
ahr:140

Ran wit Kido at Slatey Crk. Did the first 25 min Orienteering putting out tags for Judy. Really slow for this. Think we have forgotten how to O. Only covered 3.0 km in 25 min. Did the rest of the run on very hilly tracks on the old Slatey Crk map.

Cycling 1:28:00 [3] 38.0 km (2:19 / km)
ahr:141

Decided to get out on the bike as the next Tri is Olympic distance and I have some concerns about the 40 k ride.

Barkly st, woodmans hill, brewery tap road, humphray st, sturt st and then 2 laps of the lake.

Got passed by Simon Ellis, one of my old training partners and now physio. Did not even recognise me and made me look I was barely moving. Oh well, time passes.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)

Run on tracks near state forest rd.

Dog pissed off chasing something half way into the run. I called for him throughout the rest but did not see him again. Drove around for 40 min looking for him calling. I eventually found him running along a track and he seemed very happy to see me. I was so pleased and my throat so sore I could have kicked him to death. I still cant help giving him the evil stare as he sit looking admiringly at me through the window.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)

Back in action today. Put tags in the forest for Judy and then ran on my own for another 40 minutes. Great conditions. Cool and cloudy. Beautiful forest.

Note

Should have heeded my own advice from Fri and Sat. Really feel shit today. The stress of competition has set back my recovery by a long way. Let that be a lesson to you all. Rest can be a good thing.

Swimming 12:00 [3] 500.0 km (1 / km)

Swim in Tri

Cycling 41:00 [3] 20.0 km (2:03 / km)

Ride in tri

Running 37:00 [3] 8.0 km (4:38 / km)

5 k run for tri plus warm up with Kido

Did not feel great for this as I have been off colour but paid so much to enter this Triathlon I was not going to pull out. I did OK overall but need to do a lot more training to get down to my pre 2000 level. Hard to sit back and watch competitors I used to beat take out places. OH well just have to be content with the fact that I am at least having a go again and that I am nor prepared to do the 6 hrs in the pool and the 80k rides it takes to compete at a high level. I think I am over that silliness at least.

Went to the cricket at the MCG after the tri. Was interesting to watch the VICs make so many runs in a day and in fact win a match, even though they only took 8 wickets for the match. Sad to see Brad Hodge play his last game for Vic at the MCG. He will be hard to replace. Lets hope they do it with a Victorian and not with another interstate import.

Note

Not much better today. Being wise again

Friday Dec 11, 2009 #

Note

Woke with a head ache and sore throat. Decided not to train. Be wise they tell me.

Wednesday Dec 9, 2009 #

Orienteering 1:01:00 [3] ** 11.0 km (5:33 / km)
ahr:138

Ran on a 1:2500 map near Smythsedale. A place called Surface Hill. Huge mining detail but not a very big area.
Am find running a lot easier, even starting to enjoy it at long as it stays cool.

Tuesday Dec 8, 2009 #

Running 1:00:00 [3] 11.0 km (5:27 / km)
ahr:139

Run from brown hill oval to Nuggety Dam and back. Rained all day here till I went for a run and then it stopped.

Monday Dec 7, 2009 #

Cycling intervals 1:00:00 [4]

Cycling today but I went nowhere. Threatened to rain so I did intervals on the windtrainer.

Sunday Dec 6, 2009 #

Running 1:32:00 [3] 13.0 km (7:05 / km)
ahr:139

Long run mostly on tracks in Smythsedale forest. Put some tags out for Judy in the forest and then ran the rest on tracks. Seems I go a bit slower and easier without Kido to keep up with.
Beautiful evening for a run.

Saturday Dec 5, 2009 #

Orienteering 1:02:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:45 / km)

Easy run in forest. Great running conditions and a nice forest. A bit slow but oh well I enjoyed it and so did the dog.

Friday Dec 4, 2009 #

Running 1:04:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:24 / km)
ahr:143

Running on tracks around the Smythsedale forest again.

Thursday Dec 3, 2009 #

Orienteering 1:02:00 [3] 9.0 km (6:53 / km)
ahr:146

Running in forest near Smythsedale with a basic map and using a GPS. Located new tracks, dams and dry ditches. Also used the GPS to run around areas of significant vegetation. This seems to work well.
A bit slower running in terrain than on tracks and I have very scratched legs.

Wednesday Dec 2, 2009 #

Cycling 49:00 [3] 21.0 km (2:20 / km)

Rode to swimming and back. Great conditions for cycling and I coped well. Tip hill is still hard though.

Tuesday Dec 1, 2009 #

Ran in the forest and on tracks with a basic map of part of Smythsdale area.
