Orienteering 1:51:00 intensity: (30:24 @1) + (52:23 @2) + (21:10 @3) + (5:48 @4) + (1:15 @5) 10.61 km (10:28 / km) +592m 8:11 / km
ahr:152 max:190 (sick)

BCOC Long - Not my best day. Wasn't feeling great, went out a bit hard, controls #1 and 2 being slightly mis-hung put me in a bit of a bad head space early and I blew 3, recovered for 4. But then the map (and possibly control placement) for #5 were way off. There's no route gadget so I downloaded quick route to check on this one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BynRhiTlgNo9Y3lyR... (Also I'm disqualified :p)
Anywayysss after that my race was over, it was pouring, I was already sore. I trudged on but it wasn't fun and I wasn't practicing any particular skills.

And now I haven't logged in weeks cause I was waiting to do that haha.
HR data seems inaccurate

Biking 1:01:46 intensity: (56 @0) + (13:25 @1) + (29:49 @2) + (14:22 @3) + (3:14 @4) 26.84 km (2:18 / km) +325m 2:10 / km
ahr:156 max:178

Headed up to the dam and back, gorgeous evening for it. Tried to fit it into an hour door to door, couldn't quite make it. Also, my bike badly needs a service, chain came off a couple times.

Wore my HR strap - I think the optical wasn't in the right spot for all my rides. Logged a lot oz zone 0 that probably should have been 1 or 2 :(

Gym Workout 45:00 [0]

Orienteering 19:06 [3] 3.62 km (5:17 / km) +41m 5:00 / km

WET memorial west - fun little sprint loops, legs felt super heavy. Might just rest till the weekend

Saturday Sep 23, 2017 #

Running 20:43 intensity: (7:29 @1) + (3:11 @2) + (26 @3) + (2:13 @4) + (7:24 @5) 5.03 km (4:07 / km) +71m 3:51 / km
ahr:164 max:194

Went for a quick burn on the roads, wanted to hit a 20min 5k, couldn't quite do it. Probably should have taken less hills.

Also ankle hurt more than it was supposed to. Maybe its my innovates. Or pavement...

Sunday Sep 17, 2017 #

Orienteering 1:02:42 intensity: (8:42 @1) + (22:08 @2) + (16:14 @3) + (12:25 @4) + (3:13 @5) 8.92 km (7:02 / km) +307m 6:00 / km
ahr:161 max:203

Alberta Champs long. Made a ~45second error on number one then pretty clean. Again just slow. But again pleased with my navigation and second place.

HR data potentially accurate for this one so I included it. Not at all accurate for the other 2.

Orienteering 30:25 [3] 4.34 km (7:01 / km) +101m 6:17 / km

Alberta champs middle. First forest race in a couple months but I remembered what I was supposed to do pretty quick. Quite a clean run except a slow route to 15. Happy with second place and only 2.38 back from Damian given my current physical condition.
Ankle held up fine.

Orienteering 18:13 [4] 3.16 km (5:46 / km) +76m 5:09 / km

Alberta Champs sprint. Made about a minute mistake on number 3, otherwise clean just slow.

Orienteering 15:00 [1] 1.5 km (10:00 / km) +38m 8:53 / km

Picked up flags from the middle

Orienteering 2:18:08 intensity: (56:28 @0) + (58:11 @1) + (23:29 @2) 11.32 km (12:12 / km) +292m 10:49 / km
ahr:129 max:162

Checked and flagged control locations for the weekends WJR, didn't eat enough and got very tired tromping around out there... (still not feeling 100% either)

Made some modifications to the map from memory so we'll see how that plays out ;) Otherwise it's looking great. I forgot how awesome it is out there, the Elite is not for the faint of heart though.

Of the current signupees I think NDB will take the Elite course in 64 min. It's a little less physical but a little more technical than last years...

Gym Workout 45:00 [0]

Monday Sep 11, 2017 #

Note

Oof.
A little stiff today.
Physio says I can race in Canmore next weekend but try to stay off it this week and be extra careful. Deal!

Sunday Sep 10, 2017 #

Orienteering 13:38 intensity: (26 @1) + (3:11 @2) + (1:11 @3) + (6:52 @4) + (1:58 @5) 3.2 km (4:16 / km) +50m 3:57 / km
ahr:169 max:187

SART Round 4.
Led the first couple then lost a couple seconds on both the route choices then just couldn't hold the running at the end. Tied for 6th and missed the final by 3 seconds.

I was a bit disappointed that this one was at this point in the schedule. It was the least navigationally challenging of the weekend as the route choice options were basically identical (two or three steps different maybe). So a bit of a shame that the final was determined purely on running speed. (maybe I'm a little biased too though :p)

Ankle held up, getting reasonably sore though. Hammies quite stiff from yesterday.

Orienteering 16:34 intensity: (28 @1) + (7:31 @2) + (1:22 @3) + (4:34 @4) + (2:39 @5) 3.58 km (4:38 / km) +18m 4:31 / km
ahr:165 max:188

SART Round 5.
Made a couple bobbles, on #13 and the gardens, but ran it out to win this heat and finish 6th overall. (my time would have put me 5th in the finals anyways), A good technical sprint course was a great way to end it. Tied with Kai Mihata for the best time of 24 seconds on another of Patrick's classic epically long finish sprints.

Overall I'm pleased with this; coming off a fractured ankle and 8 weeks without running I thought I'd be a bit slower but I managed to stay fairly competitive and have mostly pain free fun!

Another excellent SART so a huge thanks to Patrick Nuss and the team from Cascade that puts this on! A favourite every year and certainly didn't disappoint this year.

Also, though I'll never have the predicting prowess of Big Willie Sytlez, I did get the champion correct :D

Orienteering 7:26 intensity: (4:00 @3) + (3:06 @4) + (20 @5) 1.67 km (4:27 / km) +13m 4:17 / km

SART TimeTrial. Wasn't sure how the ankle was going to be but went out swinging and it turned out to be fine.

Wasn't prepared for some real sprint navigation on this one so made a few reasonable mistakes. Suppose the time trial is not a gimme anymore. 5th.

Watch's optical heart rate monitor must have been to low or loose; didn't get usable data.

Orienteering 16:41 intensity: (9:15 @1) + (5:28 @2) + (59 @3) + (38 @4) + (21 @5) 2.98 km (5:36 / km) +57m 5:07 / km
ahr:146 max:187

SART Round 1. Poor route choice to number 1, and a bit sloppy. Took it slow 'cause it's only round 1. Still 6th overall though, so didn't take it slow enough ;)

Watch data seems more reliable for this one.

Orienteering 14:11 intensity: (5:42 @1) + (3:34 @2) + (30 @3) + (1:45 @4) + (2:40 @5) 3.06 km (4:38 / km) +17m 4:31 / km
ahr:154 max:188

SART Round 2. Got Unlucky with the trickle down effects of Eric Bone skipping the time trial - meaning I had to race mildly harder on this one and much much harder on the next one than I otherwise would have had to to secure my spots.

Had a navigationally atrocious start to the race but made it up to win the heat and 3rd overall.

Watch data seems good.

Orienteering 14:12 intensity: (3:00 @3) + (8:12 @4) + (3:00 @5) 3.42 km (4:09 / km) +24m 4:01 / km

SART Round 3. The night-O.

Had the fastest heat in the west, with Eric Bone, Eric Jones, and Tori Borish all breathing down my neck as I lead the first 9. Bone and Jones passed me as I made some slight errors on the attack of 9 and on leg 10. Held with them for the rest and passed Eric just on the run in for the fun of it. Won that heat and 2nd overall. Impressed that Thomas L managed to squeak the first place on that course by 6 seconds.

This one really hurt the ankle as a couple times I stepped on things that were too steep or uneven for it.

Watch data not at all reliable again too.

Note

Update on Graeme's ankle.
New X-ray physio wanted came back with "very subtle linear lucency ..." and "... suggesting healing of a undisplayed hairline fracture". Doctor said it's fine to run unless the pain starts to increase dramatically.
Would have casted me had he caught it 8 weeks ago...

Swimming 20:00 [2]

Tried to go swimming. Main pool was closed so just lots of I think 25m lengths. Tried three settings on my watch but couldn't turn off the auto lap detect so I broke the olympic record for 100m breaststroke by supposedly doing 4x25m in like 50secs.
Only did breaststroke as flutter kicks hurt the ankle.

Orienteering 35:10 intensity: (16 @0) + (4:27 @1) + (10:20 @2) + (16:32 @3) + (3:35 @4) 6.52 km (5:24 / km) +18m 5:19 / km
ahr:163 max:179

WET at Dias Island.
First time on this map so that was fun!
Ankle felt surprisingly good. Only minimal pain until the last km or so, then a bit more but still not too bad :)
.

Note

Now the moment no one has been waiting for.... Graeme's SART Predicition:

1. Ian Collings

3. William Enger
4. Graeme Rennie
5. Eric Bone

6. Peteris Ledins
7. Eric Jones
8. Tori Borsch
9. Ott Toomet
10. Bruce Christopherson

Tough with out some of the GVOC fast guys as I don't know the Cascade men quite as well.

Throats a litte sore again :s
Chest was hurting and Right knee was hurting
Ankle not feeling great but it was nice to get off the road a bit.
New shoes felt great!

Last ride to Microsemi!! Pushed harder to see if I could get some more HR zones out of the ride. Set a new record for the fastest time to get there but got LESS HR zone time haha

Biking 34:47 intensity: (14:32 @0) + (17:21 @1) + (2:54 @2) 14.43 km (2:25 / km) +137m 2:18 / km

Rode from the Brewery near work to a friends place at the bottom of the hill. Rode up the hill later on but didn't track that.
