Running 19:36 [3] 4.76 km (4:07 / km) +68m 3:51 / km

Went for a quick run round the streets in the dark just to see if the legs had recovered from the weekend. Got some bad stitches, perhaps from the pre-run KFC ;)

Orienteering 19:15 [4] 4.0 km (4:49 / km)

NAOC Sprint - Was excited for this as I'd been doing quite well with my technical sprinting at SART. Was tired from the long though and didn't quite have my full speed. Also the course was disappointingly easy. But then I also made several mistakes so what's up with that?
Not stoked on this performance but oh well.

Orienteering 14:58 [4] 2.7 km (5:33 / km)

NAOC Sprint Relay. Made a minute mistake here :(. Ran the whole race by myself. Disappointed in my sprinting again super fun though!

Orienteering 2:27:32 [3] 13.7 km (10:46 / km)

NAOC Long. All the long. Made a couple bobbles on 1&2 as i went out too hard. but got into it and was solid till 9. Chose poorly on the long leg the blew 12, started to die on the way to 13 and was full on walking on the way to 15. I've never been too tired to run in a race before. I was way way too tired. I couldn't think straight by the end and was hobbling along like an old man.

Very disappointing and embarrassing. I've been doing well in the longs lately and thought I was in good enough shape to handle it. Perhaps I didn't taper correctly. Oh well, I didn't want to be a long guy anyway :p

The TG effect strikes again. Two years from now we'll have to do it differently.

Orienteering 35:41 [4] 5.5 km (6:29 / km)

NAOC Middle. As always fast and steady wins the race but I suppose sometimes slow and steady is good enough for second :D. My first forest NAOC medal and first as an adult (I got bronze in the sprint in 2008). Needless to say I'm pretty happy.

This race still could have been cleaner, I bobbled in the circle a fair bit. And faster, I only came in the top 3 on 3 legs.

I doubt it would have changed the result but I'm still a bit disappointed by the TG effect. Wish they'd started him in a fair for everyone spot.

Orienteering 26:35 [3]

WET dogbones in Yaletown - Legs felt a bit sore from the weekend still

Running 1:53:00 [3] 13.55 km (8:20 / km) +701m 6:38 / km

Ran the Diaz Vistas trail with a big crew for the pos-wedding celebration run.
A hard run uphill and then a bit of a race at the end made for some tough running. Awesome day and fun to go see a new area that's close to home

Running 38:22 [4] 10.1 km (3:48 / km) +65m 3:41 / km

East side 10k as part of Thomas and Louises' wedding celebrations. My first 10k race in at least 2 years. It was just pouring the whole time but it was fun, died a bit in the second half so I was a bit over my goal but oh well.

Bouldering 30:00 [1]

Went to the gym at UBC as I had to go there for a frisbee meeting, gym was super busy so I just ended up bouldering :)

Wednesday Sep 14, 2016 #

Orienteering 29:56 [3] 6.11 km (4:54 / km) +7m 4:52 / km

WET Ambleside - fun picture matching exercise, spent 3:25 looking at the map (included in the time). legs tired from yesterday but still kept a pretty good pace

Tuesday Sep 13, 2016 #

Running 55:24 [3] 10.78 km (5:08 / km) +55m 5:01 / km

Track intervals at Sutherland. Thomas is clearly back in town. 3.42 km warmup. Then 2 x 1 mile (though my watch reports 1650m lol) on the track 5:29 & 5:37, with 2:30 rest in between, then 4:12 rest then a 3 km tempo in 11:32 managed not to get lapped by the fast guys so thats a plus, then a little cool down.

Biking 1:10:26 [2] 17.96 km (3:55 / km) +232m 3:41 / km

Slow ride up the Demo road with KateK as it was a nice evening :)

Orienteering 14:09 [3] 3.39 km (4:10 / km) +57m 3:51 / km

SART round 4 - UW, Started out well leading 1-7 but chose poorly on a long leg to 8 and got behind The Hardman and Big WillE, managed to catch Will but not Ian, first not win of the weekend but still qualified for the final!

Orienteering 17:09 [4] 3.74 km (4:35 / km) +56m 4:16 / km

SART Round 5 - UW, the Final! and first forked race of the weekend. Crushed the first loop, and was steps behind Ian and Jourdan at the first cross over. Lost time near the end on an ambitious through the not-so-white shortcut, still managed to finish in sight of Adam for 4th. Same as last year :)

Note

Just realized i put down all my watch times not my race times (I would often start it 10-30 seconds before the actual start)

Orienteering 6:23 [3] 1.4 km (4:34 / km) +16m 4:19 / km

SART Time Trial at Gasworks Park - Super pretty and neat location, burner of a course but more technical than last years time trial. finished 4th, 4 seconds back from a 3-way tie for 1st. Happy with that as I didn't push any of the run-in

Orienteering 14:29 [3] 2.89 km (5:01 / km) +55m 4:35 / km

SART round 1 - Woodlands Park, a bit of a runners course but fun!

Orienteering 14:41 [3] 2.79 km (5:16 / km) +108m 4:25 / km

SART Round 2 - Carkeek Park, Awesome route choice oriented race, ran a bit faster than I needed to again but was fun. nice to see some stairs ;)

Orienteering 15:16 [3] 2.87 km (5:19 / km) +63m 4:48 / km

SART Round 3 - SPU, Awesomely technical campus sprint, was definitely not expecting this one to be as hard as it was. That being said I had a good race, won the route choice to #1 and then managed to hold off The Hardman the whole race :)

Wednesday Sep 7, 2016 #

Orienteering 41:02 [3] 5.87 km (6:59 / km) +78m 6:33 / km

WET at Champlagne Heights - O-travels style event, ran it with the hardman so a bit tough.

Gym Workout 45:00 [1]

Spent an hour at the gym on the way home. Weights and muscles and stuff.

Monday Sep 5, 2016 #

Ultimate game 2:30:00 [2]

VUL Beach Tourney. 6 x ~50min games, some subs and whatnot. Lots of sprinting on sand, suitably tiring and tough on my hips and hamstrings. Loads of the fun though.

Sunday Sep 4, 2016 #

Orienteering 1:36:41 [3] 11.88 km (8:08 / km) +583m 6:32 / km

Jungle Run Day 2. Much much better today - made plans, read the map, executed and all the rest. Still bobbled around in the circles a bit much so that's something that could be improved upon.
Won the weekend overall and got a draw prize shirt :)

Saturday Sep 3, 2016 #

Orienteering 1:05:32 [3] 8.12 km (8:04 / km) +366m 6:35 / km

Jungle Run Day 1. I just didn't really orienteer... Me and the map were not getting along and I just wasn't making plans and such. Still had a good time at some points though. Felt sluggish too, perhaps a coulee weeks of training does magically make you invincible.

Running 31:58 [3] 6.13 km (5:13 / km) +138m 4:41 / km

Had planned on going to the track on the way home but forgot some of my clothes so just went running from home without a plan. Ended up just being a quick burn around the lake as it was pouring and I felt very tired and slow.
