Note
Roundup of the year ...
Well this was the first year of my retirement and as far as exercise is concerned I have added 200hrs over the year taking my total to over 550hrs. Most of this was in the back half of the year as the first half I concentrated on finishing my degree.
Most of the extra took the form of x-trainer, S&C, Flexibility and an extra 90hrs of walking. The amount of time spent running stayed roughly the same, although I did have a lot of injury (Achilles in the first 1/3rd, adductor in the summer and again just before xmas) and 55 of the 100hrs running were done in the 4months Aug-Nov..
Next year?
following on from the latter half of 2014 I aim for my running volume to double over the year i.e. towards 200hrs. Having tried x-country I would like to have a bash at a few 10ks and a couple of 1/2 Marathons (I have unfinished business at Birmingham!). I will aim to do parkrun as and when I can but mustn't get focussed on PBs, I just need to let that happen as and when. After the Wenlock 1/2 in May I will probably switch from mainly running to cycling from june-august to give my legs a break, before building upto the Brum 1/2 in mid-oct (1:45ish?)
Injury wise, the first half was bad being almost constantly injured with Achilles through to mid may and then adductor till late june. July to end Nov was pretty injusy free apart from 2 traumas (broken toe and the bollard incident) but then piriformis/hamstring and then adductor finished the year off. Returning to running in Jan has seen calf injury kick in again :-(
