White Rose M55s
horrible and thick terrain. Paths were cut up and very muddy. Visibility was poor. lots of brashings.
made a real balls up of 7. ctrl was supposed to be a depression but it was a rootstock and as there was a rootstock just outside the ctrl circle i though i was there and spent the next 10 mins orienteering away from my ctrl to find my ctrl!!!!!

OD SEE Coundon Hall Park
virtually flat area of playing fields and small woods
Blew 1 for 1+ mins after chap tried to tell me where the ctrl was (said the no which made me stop & check which distracted me and i overran past sml thicket )
Blew 6 for 1.30 by getting sucked too far in scrubby area on 1:5000 map and found v similar feature
14 was misplaced and i spent 30 searching
23 was misplaced which meant that what should have been a 10 sec run to 24 cost me a minute coz i wasnt starting from where i thought i was
so all in all i lost 4 mins which would have put me up with johnL

nice easy run on the valley. mixed pace. lots of fairly quick sections (trying on all hills) interspersed with gentle jogging and a bit of walking - pretty tired by the end - well i havent done much recently

at least my cough has finally gone! yey! it just took 5 weeks :-(

OD SEE - Brueton Pk, Green - excellent area

wasnt feeling very sprightly after gardening etc today. Rachel E caught me early on (4 or 5) but then we were together, either me or her in front slightly different route choices until 18. I led her in and punched first, she got away quickest and I followed with a quick compass check but she was leading me up a dead end and she turned around but i carried on - doh!. I then thumbed the map at 19 and tried to navigate from there instead of 18 - doh! lost 2 mins at least.

Brockhampton POC - all controls
S- 6-5-4-3-1-2-14-19-17-21-11-16-20-12-18-22-15-23-24-10-9-8-13-7-F.

Stuffed up 14-19 got way too low after 19 and had to cross at the water trough which made the run to 17 more uphill than it should have been. I tried to cut between the paths from 16-20 hoping to come out north of the ctrl but after much wandering around emerged onto the path south of it. I got hopelessly becalmed getting into 24 and getting out again I was almost lured into going straight from 10-9 but after an abortive attempt turmed back to the path, but then I missed the easy way into the ctrl and gingerly climbed through the brambles all the way up the reentrant - I must have been brain dead by then. And just to prove I was, I attempted to stay high from 8 rather than getting back to the road quickly. Consequently I lost a lot of time stumbling through the green bits before giving up and taking to the road anyway. The climb to 13 was torture.
Time - 53.32. I had lots of other little errors and bouts of dithering in addition to those above so I reckon I could have gone at least 5 mins quicker. Doing them in reverse order might be quicker still. We'll see!

S6D day 6 Ardchattan M55s
really blew this one! feeling rather jaded after last nights HOC social and only 2hrs sleep eurgh!
Stuffed the first ctrl for 4 mins - just didnt use the big crag to guide me in! then lost confidence and went too slow. llost another 7mins at ctrl 5 when i went too low and failed to relocate - i just stood there perplexed! Ctrl 10 was bad - either the gorse was badly mapped or the rentrant was badly mapped and the ctrl was definitely incorrectly placed - much to far into the veg. lost 3 mins. then stuffed up the exit from 10 on the way to 11 getting stuck in the gorse and lost another 3 mins. on way to 12 got stuck at top of a crag next to a fence x-ing i failed to spot on the map (and ground) lost 3 mins - then ran downhill from 12 instead of contouring - had to run back up againn losing another 2 mins
pathetic!

best day 11th
slow from the start so as not to mess up 1st ctrl. blew 3rd as i was 90 degrees out running over the marsh - i still dont understand (lost 3 mins) and then failed to find fence x-ing after 3 as i was looking at top of fence thru the trees and the x-ing was under the fence so i ran 2 sides of a triangle and lost 2mins. loved the marsh running today and I was catching Ant.C big time every time i could stretch out even though my routes were often longer.

Feeling a bit more sprightly today. Stuffed up ctrl 3 as veg was incorrectly mapped and i pulled up short where the contours and veg seemed to match the map - doh! others also got stuck here. Then really blew the next ctrl (lost 8mins)coz i chose a stupid route and failed to read the map (completely didnt see a major stream that i crossed!) was very unsettled in the open to 5 as i was trying to make the map fit the ground - there was more bumps on the ground than on the map but i only needeed to go to the top of the hill! i just lost confidence. a minor miss at 10 then a major miss at 11 (lost 5 mins) where i made a parallel error and tried to make the map fit the ground (it did but only when swivelled thru 90 degrees!). ran into the OOB after 12 for 2 mins (as had many others). not a good day.

I blistered my r.heel on day 1, taped it for day 2 (pulled it off in the shower - ouch) then comeeded it for today but that came off in the first marsh so I had to pack at ctrl 4 as i could no longer walk let alone run. I wasnt going too bad on this as i was getting into the map and I could have done well - but hey!

Woah! this went pearshaped after ctrl 2 as i just couldnt make out the vague veg changes from marsh open to marshy wood also couldnt see the contours due to veg cover, consequently I failed to keep precise map contact and had to go really slow having to constantly relocate. mid section was better but 1km 9-10 (16mins!) had me walking the first 500m as I just couldnt keep in touch with the map. Better until I had 4 short ctrls (17mins) in the thick green just before the end where I couldnt even maintain contact at walking pace!
