COBOC Sutton Park Nite-O
Had a complete mare! Missed 1 but saw a fox. Backed out of 2 when i was nearly on it and lost 4 mins. Rain on glasses is not good at night.
Found the depression for no 9 - but it wasnt supposed to be in a depression - thanks pete! Then couldnt find the broad shallow reentrant for 10 - too big a feature at night! Had to be rescued by Maz when i almost gave up after nearly 9 mins, stuck with her for the next 3 before regaining confidenvce and sprinting off

stuffed up right from the start (8 1/2 mins for a 200m first ctrl) stuffed 4 too for another 6 min loss and lost another 6 mins on ctrl 6. aaaaagrh! got it together a bit but on the long (round the tracks) run to 12 found an unmapped 'main' connecting path which threw me and I lost another minute faffing, then sailed straight past 13 (stump masquerading as rootstock).....

Frith wood night score
doh! got 225 points in the first 34 mins and then only 10 in the last 26mins and got myself back late. started well but went for a high ointer which was further down than expected and the veg was horrid so i backed out. then I missed a path and thus an easy 10 pts so went for 2 hight points on the way back but couldnt get inti the terrain so carried on for an easy 10 and the another wasy 15 but got disorientated in some brambles and on a fence that i couldnt figure out until i realised (too late) that it was a couple of metres away from my path back to the finish!

2 sided map - basically a big 37 control course - one was allowed to miss controls out but not go backwards in swequence. very good format but I took it very easy

shoes: Dawes 62 fixed CX

rebuilt the Dawes as a fixed C-X bike so took it for a blast around the valley
mainly trails, some singletrack and grass and a bit of tarmac - excellent!
62" is a bit tall for proper C-X so didnt do any tough hills bar Wigmore lane which is road anyhow.

Lickey Green
bloody awful....., two biggish falls on the way to 1, decided to take path route to 2 but couldnt get out of deep ditch leaving 1 - took 4 attempts, fell back in each time. Had a few more full length falls when being tripped by protuding branches and another big fall near end in same vicinity as 1 - doh!
glasses misted up so visibility was an issue. Mislocated myself on way from 4-5 and went to 6 instead (further down same ditch) - didnt notice till 1/2 way to 7 so had to go back to 5 - took ages:-(

warm up easy run onto HillTop
Wanted to do 5 reps of a longish (550m) gentle hill but I felt crap and reduced it to 3 and took it easy on the final 250m into the wind flat bit. easy 200m downhill jog between reps.

2km warm down easy run home.

Ercall woods green
dodgy map dodgy control placement leading to some less than optimal route choice and headscratching. Also lots of leaves down hiding tracks. In fact the most obvious paths were the mountain bike tracks and they werent on the map.
very steep and loose underfoot so struggled to stand upright

1st time, very evenly paced and my legs (r.calf) didnt enjoy the experience of pounding tarmac, but at least I have a base time - albeit a but tardy, so I should be able to get a PB next time!
