pre-breakfast blast, once around the wider valley - very enjoyable but a tad chilly.
nearly got bought off by rabbits up by charlemont and then again by a dog (grey pincher thing) running the opposite way on a corner of the track past the old priory - very comical the way we dodged to one side then the other kicking up loads of dust as my wheels and his paws locked up
- earnt my bowl of porridge :-)

I'm sooo unfit at the minute....
having only run an average of an hour a week and not run since last monday I decided i needed to get some time in today.
however after another poor night sleep it was evident from the off that there was nothing in the tank, so after a few running drills I decided on a SLOOW run. Ran over HillTop then 2 circuits of the near valley before coming back over HillTop. Even at a slow pace I kept having to stop for little walkies. The two circuits were done in 20.17 and 20.27, thats 25% slower than normal. slight niggle in R calf/achilles about 1/3 into second circuit
The British could be a trial :-(

North Birmingham fast group - had intended to go with the intermediates as I havent been out for 3 1/2 months. However, they sounded a little too unambitious so I went for the fast group (say 16 riders?) anyway onthe 2nd fast loop around Hurley it split and I struggled to catch the back of the front group - very fast for 20mins or so - lots of complaints at the cafe stop from the >1/2 that got dropped.

Right achilles has been very sore today after yesterday's run. Didnt notice anything at all yesterday and didnt push it at all - this is NOT fair!

- pretty warm, knee still niggling. Felt good but couldnt keep going, just kept running out of puff!

OD Leek Wootton Long course - 27ctrls 3.7k
Brilliant little area - woodland parkland and urban all in miniature on a 1:4k map. Very confused from the off but got into it. Ctrlsjust had stakes no kites so sometimes I just couldnt see them even when they were in my field of vision, lost a shed load of time to that. Also I misread what track i was on due to the strange scale and that had me looking the wrong side for one conttrol - v embarrassing. Bob B overtook me early on but I overhauled him later with a little help from a tree stump!


OMG! I just wrote my route up and realised that Imissed a control. I had planned a route from 15-16 but approaching 15 I saw BB take my route. Desperate not to follow him I took my alternative route and in doing so ran straight past 15! doh! it was a crap route too

Sandwell dateless Green - started from the visitor centre, felt awful but kept plugging away, legs started to feel like jelly after 20mins - still made a mess of jubilee woods.

Three Shires Challenge Walk with Lumpy - the regulars at the LDWA reckoned that this was at the upper end of 'hilly'.
Food at controls was brill - staffordshire oatcakes at just over 1/2 way round, nassive spread at the end.
Legs hurt a bit but good training for Offa's Dyke.

Note

Things really have been slack for these first 3 months of 2011 - I seem to have averaged a little over 1 hour running per week. Thats half as much as in the previous 2 years!
