Cycling warm up/down 20:00 [1]

4 PM

Cycling 2:00 [5]

Out and back along the 702 as far as the 721 junction.
Strrrrong headwind out. It had one saving grace it was consistent so you just had to get your head down and work. Coming back was rip roaring.
Out, uphill (210m) and upwind - 35km 1:23:12 - 25.3 kph
Back, downhill and downwind - 35km - 51:30 - 40.8 kph = 25.5 mph
overall speed 31.1 kph
Coming back was working some lengthy spells of tempo
really good hard ride.

Cycling 15:00 [4] 79.0 km (11 / km)

From Strathclyde country park where we watched the open water swimming (friend doing it) up the A721 to Carluke, Carnwath and across to the 702 south of Dolphinton.
This section was crosswind and up-hill (overall gain 230m) averaged 31.9kph which I am pretty chuffed with.
Once on the 702 I turned downwind and started to fly, by the time I was out of Dolphinton (3 miles later) average speed was up to 33kph. From there the road rises and falls so I was battling to keep the average up. It came and went and at carlops I was back on 33 and the tailwind came in pretty consistently so I flew from there even whithout the descent back in to town. Hit top speed 69kph down in to Flotterstone and ended the ride on 34.8kph.
the tailwind for the second half helped but I rode really hard.

road run 18:00 [1]

totally fed up of not going for a run
and having a head full of cold.
I came to the conclusion having cycled around and about over the last two days that the cold is in my head not my legs.
So, despite a thick head and much coughing I decided on a short easy spin.
It was fine
My back has been sore for a week, got that treated / straightened yesterday, so, whilst still sore, things were working.

Now (3pm) feeling miles better

Track 1:18 [5]

Down to the track with Sam, Kate and Vreni
Drills and stuff to warm up
starting on the back bend
300m, then jog recovery 40 seconds into the wind
so wind assisted 57, 58, 59, 58, 58, 56
was going to do 5 reps but Vreni wanted to do one with me and I had done 5 so ended up with 6
Very pleased cos there is a semblence of lightness/ quickness which has long been lacking.

Track 4:02 [4]

mixed running 14:00 [3]

mixed running 34:00 [2]

Note

Sunday the 11th - the Tour of Britain kicks off in Peebles with Cavendish, Hushovd, Eisel, Renshaw, Voigt riding - a chance to catch some big names.
Also racing is Jack Bauer...

Aim to watch the depart and then dash round to Tweedsmuir to see them ride through (maybe top of the climb at Meggethead if we can beat the rolling road block.)

Stage 3 from Stoke will be covering some of the route I rode at the beginning of August - I'm such a pro.

Sunday Sep 4, 2011 #

9 AM

Cycling 1:31:00 [3] +1000m
ahr:139 max:157

from KW
to Kirkharle, Wallington, Elsdon, Otterburn, Bellingham, Wark, Chollerford, Bavington, Kirkharle, KW.
83.17km in 2:46:18 = just over 30kph and I was kaning it at the end to notch it up there.
Reckon I'm getting better, feels like I can roll at about 34kph on the level.
But this was not level. majority of the climb was in the first half to Bellingham - purple heather, second half golden corn, really nice ride on a classic calm september sunshine day.
