run warm up/down (road) 15:00 [1] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Integrator05-studs

Warmup on the road to the start. Missed the bus I intended to take while waiting for TP in the bathrooms, so ran to the start instead of waiting for the next bus. Arrived at the bus drop off just after the next bus did, but was nice a warmed up. A bit to warm in fact. 3 minutes at the start to cool off before my start time.

orienteering race (red) 1:13:04 [5] *** 9.15 km (7:59 / km) +70m 7:41 / km

DVOA Batona 500 Day 2 Red. Pakim Pond. Started well, ran well, did not fade badly and only had one significant mistake on 7 when I took a stick in the eye and lost my place and stopped short. Had to relocate from #3. Rain held off and while I had some problems with sweat and fogging on my glasses, the 1:10 scale and lack of detail made it not to hard to read the map. Caught by Marty going to 8 but managed to pass him back at some point. He passed me twice more and I passed him twice more. I was really happy with my run until I got my splits and the MP. I had skipped 19. That explains how I passed Marty there. Apparently I had not been able to see the map as well as I thought. I had not even seen 19 as I left 18 and took the long leg to 20. Figure I would have taken less than 2 minutes to get to 19 and my route to 20 would be about the same.
Splits and comments are posted.

Event: BATONA 500

orienteering race (red) 58:05 [4] *** 6.35 km (9:09 / km) +103m 8:28 / km
spiked:14/18c shoes: Integrator05-studs

DVOA Batona 500. Day 1 Red. Some trouble on 2,10,12, and 13. Biggest mistake was 13, knew I was over 1 spur but then was to low when I went to the correct one so did not see it and thought I was misplaced. Ran with PlutePro and Bernie for much of the middle of the course but faded leaving 12 and was dropped. Still a good run for me, considering how little I have trained. In 4th on M45 with a small chance to catch 3rd one minute ahead and good chance to lose places to the mob just behind me. 1st and 2nd were out of reach with Mikell Platt leading 18 minutes ahead of me.
Splts and eventually comments are posted.

run warm up/down (trail) 11:00 [1] 1.5 km (7:20 / km)
shoes: Integrator05-studs

Warmup on the jog to the start.

orienteering (walk) 25:22 [1] * 1.3 km (19:31 / km)
spiked:10/10c shoes: Integrator05-studs

Sprint A at Batona. I had signed up in advance but did not feel up to sprinting so walked the course with Bev. This was her first time orienteering and the course seemed easy enough that she would not be scared away from ever showing up again. Her normal comment about orienteering when hearing about races is And you do this for fun?.

run (road) 24:24 [1] 2.75 mi (8:52 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid Stabil

Another attempt at a quick run in the morning. Experimenting to see how much warmup I need before a run to avoid needing a bathroon on the run. 3/4 loop of the apartments then out and back on Lee Hwy. (6:36), 9:09, 8:39

Square dancing (rounds, plus) 35:00 [1]
shoes: Dockers Gordon

At B and B. 7:30-9:30.

run (road) 17:55 [1] 2.0 mi (8:57 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid Stabil

A few more miles before bed. Together with this morning it almost makes a workout. 9:14, 8:41.
No sense in tiring myself before Batavia.
