orienteering (red) 1:26:24 [3] 7.05 km (12:15 / km)

QOC, Broad Creek MD. 450m climb. Tired from yesterday and the climb really hurt. Bunch of mistakes also. Started to sleet, then rain for last 25 minutes.
Splits are posted.

run (pickup) 38:13 [1] 2.65 km (14:25 / km)

Pick up some of the close controls after the meet. Distance is actual, not straight line, time is gross and includes time at the bags. Stayed on trails as I was more concerned with keeping warm than orienteering. Not enough distance between bags to warm up and untieing the bags refroze my hands each time.

run (warmup) 4:19 [1] 0.43 mi (10:02 / mi)

Jog to get warm enough to take off some clothes.

run (road/trail) 1:49:59 [3] 13.0 mi (8:28 / mi)

DCRRC-SLR. 8am, low 30s. Panda loop. Glover Archibald trail, VanNess, CT, zoo to see pandas and back via Rock Creek. Worked the trail (4mi) but lazy on the rest. Time does not include stops for bathroom and to watch the pandas.

walk 40:00 [1] 2.2 mi (18:11 / mi)

Walk to library and back. Breaking in a new pair of running shoes.

One week into the year and I am already 4.5 miles behind on my 30mi goal. But still a much better start than the opening week of 4 miles last year.

Note

Goal for last year was 30 mile/week. Preliminary count gets 26.684 (172.4 miles short) which is close enough for me since I did not expect to make it. Probably would have made it if I included orienteering as actual distance and included some portion of bike miles. Smallest week was only 4 miles on Jan 6, largest was 50.5 on thanksgiving week and included a marathon. 11 weeks had less than 20 miles, 7 weeks had more than 40. Goal for this year will once again be 30mi/wk but this year I expect to make it.

Ran with Ted in the woods behind his house. Hard to stay with him; I slow down so much off the roads.
