Orienteering race 1:33:23 [4] 8.9 km (10:29 / km) +368m 8:42 / km
ahr:141 max:180

Birsemore brown. Tech 10#6. Really enjoyed this. Nav was spot on until 15 where I couldn’t find the crag - seems lots of people had problems here. Think there’s something a bit odd about the map. Learning point was to relocate more positively - should have dropped to the track bend. All good otherwise though and legs felt a lot better than yesterday.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)

Jog to start and back from finish

Control collecting for ScotJOS training at Dinnet. Tech 10 #5. Started the athletes off in trains for their afternoon session before picking up the first loop. Then headed back over towards Cnoc Dubh to get the morning session. Didn't have a map that extended far enough for me to know where anything was and the tracks weren't on it, so was a bit of a challenge to get myself into the right bit of forest! Once I'd found the 1st control I re-focussed to try and make a decent technical session of it and was reasonably happy with the outcome. A couple of misses, similar to mistakes that the athletes had made earlier.
Feeling really tired. Probably didn't need this, but was nice to get out.

D/h Skiing 1:00:00 [3]
ahr:102 max:152

Bit of downhill practice at Glenshee. Started to feel a lot more relaxed after a couple of runs and really enjoyed it in the end. Some cracking conditions in certain parts - Corrie Fionn especially. Light got a bit flat by 3:30 and quads were totally shot, so called it a day. 2:15 total ski time.

Hanging some controls for ASC at Bellwood, collecting afterwards and then run back home along the river bank. Another beautiful crisp moonlit evening - love this section of river, especially alone in the dark.

Pootle up to Aboyne to do a few messages. Out by WHW and Bellwood and back by the DW. Legs needed loosening off after last night. This defo helped.

Orienteering 57:15 [3] 6.38 km (8:59 / km) +39m 8:43 / km

DNC Glen Dye. Tech 10 #4. Much improved tonight. A few small mistakes due to rushing, but never out of control. Got a bit rattled after I caught IH but couldn’t get away. Was aware I was being distracted but didn’t handle it well - still plenty to work on. New compass / magnifier seemed fine. Happy with physical shape after last night and previous.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Short jog before start and back from finish

Running 30:15 [2] 3.76 km (8:03 / km) +94m 7:10 / km

Jog round the woods to loosen the legs off and clear the head - planning for evening intervals
6 PM

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3] 4.6 km (6:31 / km)
ahr:146 max:188

Jog out to foot of the Fungle and back again after reps. Good chat / catch up with AD on the way back.

Running hills 36:00 [5] 3.5 km (10:17 / km) +300m 7:12 / km

DR 8 x 2' hills with 2.5' jog back and recovery on the bottom section of the Fungle. Felt dire on first one - couldn't get going at all and wheezing by the end. They improved after that and managed to maintain reasonably equal distances for the remainder of the session. Happy with that for the first quality session in a while and given I know I am close to the edge training-wise.

Wee trip up to Glenshee. Still tired, so had no big ambitions, but wanting to make something of the snow whilst it's here. Sunny all the way up the glen to B'mar, but turned the corner and the cloud was clinging to the hills. Scaled back thoughts of heading up Glas Maol and stayed around the Sunnyside / Meall Odhar area. Happy enough going uphill, but not enjoying the flat light on descents and not feeling at all relaxed. Didn't feel the need to persevere, so cut short fairly rapidly and headed for the Bothy. Nice catch up with KH over coffee.
