Glenmore - Linn of Dee by the Lairig Ghru with SR and RB. After persistent snow yesterday the chances of getting back to LoD on foot weren’t looking good for today. We put a contingency plan in place for alternative means of getting home, but had time to go and see what it looked like with an option to carry on if conditions were better than anticipated. Heading up from Glenmore there was a fair bit of brightness and we seemed to be gaining quite good height without the snow getting horrendous. I knew it would be worse further up, but assuming conditions on the south side were similar it should be a relatively short (10km ish) section of heavy slog. And we had a tail wind. So we decided to commit and carry on. In short it was the longest snow wade I’ve ever had to do, with soft snow which saw us sinking thigh deep at regular intervals and we soon perfected an alternative snow crawl to make faster progress through the worst bits. And it carried on like that pretty much all the way to the Luibeg (more like 20km). There’s not many people I would feel comfortable with on a day like that, but thankfully we were all able to dig deep and see it through - good humour and good company all the way. Think I’ll remember this one for a long while!
Great weekend all round and happy to have felt physically strong enough for it.
