Not enough w/u after helping on start. Jog part way back from finish.

Orienteering race 1:15:00 [4] 8.1 km (9:16 / km) +300m 7:49 / km

Auchengarrich SOL short brown. Felt tired but tried to just work steady. Nav mostly good, but a couple of mistakes at 5 and 12 where veg confused me. Missed 14 too after diverting off bearing based on what I thought was the mapped hill. Area not as horrible as I remember, but certainly quite tough and soft (I.e. squelchy underfoot. Processes and concentration generally good.

Abbey Craigs middle distance on a sprint style map. Nice wee race. Good for practicing quick thinking, planning and executing. Got caught out by having my map folded and running from 6-10 (reading 6 as 9). Realised as I unfolded the map but then fluffed the leg to 7 having lost my flow. Almost went to 19 before 14 too - need to practise my counting :-) Otherwise quite happy with how things were going.

Rosyth sprint. Tiny wee area and all a bit the same, but good fast practice. Just one time loss coming out of 5 - 10secs maybe. Happy with that.

Friday Mar 23, 2018 #

From S Dee Rd up a wee track onto the Sgor an h-Iolaire ridge, all the way along it to the south then back by the Glen Girnock track. Cleared up nicely but cold wind on the ridge. Not much snow left now, but still deep in the drifts. Happy frogs in the puddles on the way back.
Good to start getting back to some longer runs.

Hanging and collecting controls at Creag Choinnich. Feet absolutely frozen for the 3rd day in a row after standing around with them wet during the session.

WeTT Bellwood. Tech 10 #7. Trying to focus on smooth control flow. Mostly going ok. Good to start getting back into it.

Lunchtime round the woods and fields. Feeling good - maybe should have done some intervals. Interesting that I was much less physically damaged by Sat race than I was by my training on the Tues before... not quite sure what that means, but good to recover quickly this week.
Dare I say it... spring is in the air :-)

Hanging and collecting controls at Crathie for school session. Gorgeous morning and forest was beautiful with a bit of crunchy snow on a soft mossy forest floor. Love this wee gem.
