Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

To Start. Feeling very sleepy, Not sure how I was going to get round a brown. Decided plan was just to find one control and then the next without thinking too deeply.

Orienteering race 1:44:00 [4]

Uath Lochans brown. And that was pretty much how it worked out. Ran pretty smooth and once I got going felt a bit better. New shoes felt a bit hard / different and left sole got sore. Ran out of steam a bit in the second half until I met someone else who motivated me to try and work a bit harder. Then punched a wrong control really near the end. Ran past the correct one, went another 50m and then had a "hang on" moment and returned to get the correct one. Surprised I had been out for quite as long!

Orienteering race 39:00 [5]

Highland Wolf middle at Gaick Wood. Plan was to attack this to see how I felt when I got working at higher intensity. Ran pretty clean and was pleased with run, but finished feeling like I'd done a x-c race with aching lungs etc.... guess they've not done anything at higher intensity for a while. Impressed by JRs time of 32.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

To the start. Nothing in the legs as soon as I hit the hill.
3 PM

Orienteering race 18:00 [5]

Kingussie sprint. Toomuch haste in the woods and bananaed nos 2 and 3, but otherwise clean. Another shock for the lungs. On balance pretty happy with how I managed to run today. Suggests I don't have too many recovery issues from TMB.

Running 20:00 [2]

Picking up controls in Castle Woods for after-school club. Good to get a leg stretch after long day of driving / stress / sitting. Nice to see some more enthusiastic new faces too.

Easy trot round the woods. No worse than expected.

Running 40:00 [3] 6.5 km (6:09 / km)

TMB day 6 Nant Borrant to Les Houches. Feeling good this morning after a much better night's sleep and no real aches or pains. Ran the first section down the track to Les Contamines. Weather changed - dreich and damp with cloud obscuring the views.

Walking 4:30:00 [3] 21.5 km (12:33 / km) +1400m 9:28 / km

From Les Contamines took the high level route which had been recommended by others. Stiffish climb at the start, short descent, then climb to the Col du Tricot at 2100m. Got pretty wet by this stage and got full waterproofs on after I realised I was chilling off. Steep descent into a gorge then a cool suspension bridge over a raging torrent coming out of a glacier. Bit more up and down through some nice woodland before coming out to the ski areas at Bellevue. Ran the easier sections still feeling good. Steep descent back to Les Houches from Bellevue. Planned to celebrate with a slap-up lunch but unfortunately it's a holiday and the only open restaurant was jam packed :-( Bought some vin rouge and chocolate instead.
Great tour. All went amazingly to plan and even the weather behaved for the most part.
